VBA Round 5: Danang D. edges Can Tho CF by one point

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most exciting game of round 5 in the VBA took place in Danang. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 4th placed Can Tho CF (2-4) to sixth ranked Danang D. (2-3) 87-86 in the game for the fourth place. Danang D. outrebounded Can Tho CF 47-34 including a 35-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Anthony January (203-93, college: CS San Bernar.) who had a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!) and 26 rebounds. Swingman Hung Nguyen-Van (187-95) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. American power forward DeAngelo Hamilton (203-90, college: WSU) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds for the guests. Danang D. moved-up to fourth place. Defending champion Can Tho CF dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Danang D. are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Hanoi B. (#6) on the road in the next round. Can Tho CF will play against the league's leader HCMC W. and is hoping to win this game.
An exciting game was played in . Second ranked HCMC W. faced 3rd placed Thang Long W.. Guests from Hochiminh (5-2) defeated host Thang Long W. (3-3) 66-62. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Thang Long W.. Filipino guard Michael Soy (186, college: Algonquin) orchestrated the victory by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Wayne Martin contributed with 8 points and 22 rebounds for the winners. HCMC W.'s coach Predrag Lukic allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American power forward Jaywuan Hill (203-89, college: SW Baptist, agency: AgainHello) answered with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds for Thang Long W.HCMC W. keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Saigon H. Thang Long W. at the other side keeps the third place with three games lost. HCMC W. will play against Can Tho CF (#5) on the road in the next round. Thang Long W. will play again against the league's leader HCMC W. in Hochiminh and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Thang Long W. maintains third place with 3-3 record having just three points less than leader HCMC W. Loser Hanoi B. stay at the bottom position with five games lost. Thang Long W. will meet league's leader HCMC W. in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hanoi B. will play against Danang D. (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 5 bottom-ranked Hanoi B. was defeated by Saigon H. in a road game 87-81.



Hanoi B. - Thang Long W. 64-71

The game in Hanoi was also quite interesting. Third ranked Thang Long W. (3-3) played at the court of 6th ranked Hanoi B. (2-5). Thang Long W. managed to secure a 7-point victory 71-64 on Thursday. Thang Long W. made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. American power forward Jaywuan Hill (203-89, college: SW Baptist, agency: AgainHello) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds for the winners and naturalized American Justin Young (190, college: Cal Poly Pomona) chipped in 10 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Thang Long W. players scored in double figures. Thang Long W.'s coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Michael Bell (206-82, college: FAU) responded with 7 points, 23 rebounds and 5 blocks and naturalized American Henry Nguyen (170, college: Orange Coast CC) scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. Thang Long W. maintains third place with 3-3 record having just three points less than leader HCMC W. Loser Hanoi B. stay at the bottom position with five games lost. Thang Long W. will meet league's leader HCMC W. in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Hanoi B. will play against Danang D. (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Hanoi B. (2-5) was defeated on the road by second ranked Saigon Heat (5-2) 87-81 on Sunday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Saigon Heat looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American Nix Tavarion (201-92, college: Midwestern St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and guard Khoa Tran-Dang (170) chipped in 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Saigon Heat's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Michael Bell (206-82, college: FAU) responded with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 23 rebounds and 5 blocks and naturalized Swedish guard Stefan Nguyen (190-92) scored 13 points.
