UAE cagers do well in AGCC

SHARJAH — On the fourth day of the 8th AGCC Ladies Tournament, the competitions shifted into top gear with UAE-A beating UAE-B 91-36 in basketball.

Bahrain beat Qatar 60-46 in another game. Mouza Ahmed, representative of the Qatar team justified the loss of her team saying, “The performance of the team was definitely affected by the stress and exhaustion they faced from last night's game with Kuwait.'

The efforts of Qatar against Kuwait was indeed noteworthy, where the former team secured a hard-earned victory against the Gulf Championship winners on Monday, the third day of the tournament, with a close 68-66 score.

In the table tennis singles at American University of Sharjah a series of excellent games took place within 8 groups of 26 players.

In volleyball, Bahrain and UAE-B competed in a vigorous game that saw Bahrain walking away 2-0 winners.

The second match was equally competitive with Qatar winning against Kuwait 2-0.

In volleyball and basketball, the winners will win cash prizes of Dh50,000. Table tennis winners will get Dh15,000 for professionals and Dh10,000 for amateurs.

The winners of the table tennis singles series would be awarded Dh3,000 per player.

The champions of the 8th GCC Tournament will be awarded a cash prize of Dh15,000 and Dh15,000 for the Best Team Management and Dh5,000 for the best coach.

The resulting scores qualified 16 players to move forward to the semifinals.

This is the first time in the history of the AGCC Ladies Tournament that the organisers have decided to award cash prizes to the winners of the various categories, besides the trophies, medals and participation certificates.
