What a coincidence that all visitors won their games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Al Wasl (3-1) in Dubai on Thursday night. Hosts were rolled over by Al Naser (4-0) 88-69. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Al Wasl. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Al Naser have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Ahli Shabab and Al Sharjah. Al Wasl at the other side keeps the fourth place with one game lost.
Bottom-ranked Al Wahda managed to get a 0th victory, breaking the series of three consecutive losses. Newly promoted Al Wahda won against ninth-ranked Al Dhafra 82-74. And what about a 0th win in a row after ...four consecutive losses. Al Wahda (0-4) moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Al Ain and Al Dhafra.
D1 top team - Al Sharjah (4-0) had no problems winning another game on Thursday. This time they crushed fifth ranked Banijas (2-2) in Abu Dhabi 88-65. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Banijas. Al Sharjah have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 4-0 record, which they share with Ahli Shabab and Al Naser. Loser Banijas keep the fifth position with two games lost. They share it with Al Bataeh.
Leader Ahli Shabab blasted bottom-ranked Al Ain (0-4) in Al Ain 93-50 keeping the perfect record after 5 rounds. Al Ain is still unable to win any game. Ahli Shabab have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion (4-0) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Al Naser and Al Sharjah. Newly promoted Al Ain still closes the standings with four games lost.

In the last game of round 5 Al Bataeh beat Al Jazeera on the road 74-64.



Al Ain - Ahli Shabab 50-93

Leader Ahli Shabab blasted bottom-ranked Al Ain (0-4) in Al Ain 93-50 keeping the perfect record after 5 rounds. Al Ain is still unable to win any game. Ahli Shabab have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion (4-0) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Al Naser and Al Sharjah. Newly promoted Al Ain still closes the standings with four games lost.

Al Jazeera - Al Bataeh 64-74

Everything could happen in Abu Dhabi at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth ranked Al Bataeh and 9th ranked Al Jazeera had identical 1-2 record. But Al Jazeera was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from 74-64. Al Bataeh (2-2) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Banijas. Newly promoted Al Jazeera dropped to the seventh position with three games lost.

Ahli Shabab Dubai (D1) signed 33-year old Bulgarian ex-international power forward Cedric Simmons (206-107kg-86, college: NC State). He joins another USA player Sammy Monroe which is already in the roster.
Simmons is a dual citizen owning also American passport. He has played for the last two seasons at Kalev/Cramo in Latvian LatEstBL. Simmons managed to play in three leagues last year

Defending champion Ahli Shabab Dubai (D1) added to their roster 33-year old American (has also Iraqi passport) forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry). He played recently at Homentmen in Lebanese LBL league. He helped them to make it to the Supercup final. The last season Monroe played at Al Gharafa in D1 where in 18 games he had very impressive stats: 20.3ppg, 10.1rpg, 5.8apg (top 4) and 1.8spg.
