UAE opened victoriously their GCC Championship campaign. They rallied past Bahrain in Doha yesterday. Amal Gamal stepped up with 28 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort.
Bahrain got to the better start. They grabbed a 12:4 lead after ten minutes. But gradually UAE recovered and found the right rhythm. They stunned their opponents 25:2 in the second quarter to pile up a 15-point advantage. UAE continued to mount the pressure in the third term. They stretched the gap to as many as 21 points with ten minutes remaining. Bahrain could not recover and surrendered at the end. Ziekha Abdulla notched 13 points for the winners. Haneem Abdulaziz answered with 14 points for Bahrain. Mariam Hedar accounted for 13 points in the losing effort.
UAE will next take on Qatar, while Bahrain will look for the initial win against Kuwait.
