TBSL Round 2: Hitech defeat Kabayan- February 11, 2020
There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in TBSL. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
Kabayan - Hitech 55-101 The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Kabayan (1-1) at the home court on Sunday night. Hosts were rolled over by Hitech (2-0) 101-55. Hitech dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Kabayan's 24. Hitech forced 26 Kabayan turnovers and outrebounded them 54-31 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Kabayan's players. American guard Ethan Alvano (185, college: CS San Marcos) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. The former international center Sukhdave Ghogar (195-90) contributed with 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Alvano is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Hitech players scored in double figures. Hitech's coach Chris Daleo felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Filipino RR De Leon replied with 14 points and 6 rebounds and Filipino forward Andrian Celada (190-88) added 13 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Kabayan. Hitech is looking forward to face Adroit (#7) in Singapore in the next round where they are favorite. Kabayan will play against ZNO Eagles and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident. MUBC (1-1) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging Adroit (1-1) 77-74 in the game for the fourth place. MUBC forced 22 Adroit turnovers. Strangely Adroit outrebounded MUBC 49-34 including 17 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. British center Morakinyo Williams (210-88, college: Citadel) scored 22 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Vietnamese Vincent Cilia Corey chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals during the contest. American forward Demetris Morant (206-92, college: FGCU) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 22 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and Singapore Qing Huang Toh (183-95) scored 22 points and 6 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Adroit's coach Choon Hong tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. MUBC will play against Raptors (#3) in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Adroit will play against Hitech in Bangkok and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Luang outrebounded Matrix 50-39 including 38 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. American center Vincent Boumann (206-96, college: W.Oregon) notched a double-double by scoring 30 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and Filipino forward Christopher Ellis (192) supported him with 22 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Four Luang players scored in double figures. Even 19 points and 4 assists by Malaysian forward Ooi Xian Fu (186-0) did not help to save the game for Matrix. Malaysian guard Wee Yiang De (182-99) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the guests. Matrix's coach Jeff Viernes let to play twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Luang will meet Pegasus (#9) in the next round where they are favorite. Matrix will play against BBM CLS and hope to win that game. BBM CLS (2-0) got a very close victory on the road over ZNO Eagles (0-2). BBM CLS managed to escape with a 1-point win 71-70 on Sunday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. BBM CLS looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Filipino-Canadian guard Alfred Mandani (185-87, college: Missouri S&T) notched a triple-double by scoring 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists to lead the effort and Canadian forward Murphy Burnatowski (203-91, college: Colgate) supported him with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 31 points and 11 rebounds by American center Raymond Miller (204-88, college: CS Fullerton) did not help to save the game for ZNO Eagles. Filipino swingman JR Cawaling (190-87) added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. BBM CLS will meet at home Matrix (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. ZNO Eagles will play against Kabayan and hope to win that game. Raptors dominated down low during the game scoring 84 of its points in the paint compared to Pegasus' 22. Raptors forced 21 Pegasus turnovers and outrebounded them 55-40 including a 39-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. American center Reginald Johnson (208-89, college: Miami, FL) notched a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 28 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the effort and the other American import point guard Avery Scharer (185-86, college: Shoreline CC) supported him with 26 points, 7 rebounds, 12 assists and 7 steals. Scharer is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Raptors players scored in double figures. Even 25 points and 9 rebounds by Filipino guard Patrick Cabahug (186) did not help to save the game for Pegasus. Brunei Kel Hung added 16 points and 13 rebounds for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Raptors will meet MUBC (#4) in the next round. Pegasus will play against Luang (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
