The Saigon Heat ties Formosa Dreamers for most current wins by beating Mono Vampire, 87-76, thanks to a monster game from Kyle Barone. The home team was able to replicate exactly what was done to them by the Slingers last Sunday on its opponent, which was to take an early lead and never look back. After an 11-2 run to start the first quarter, Saigon's great defense helped them maintain the advantage all game long. With Chris Charles sidelined with a back injury, the Thai squad were forced to turn back into the undersized Mono team that went 0-3 at the start of the season. And this time, they did not even have Marcus Keene to carry the scoring, which was part of the reason why last season's runners-up shot only 34% from the field and made only six out of 32 three point attempts. The visitors did rally and in fact had the Heat committed 19 turnovers that turned into 22 markers. But on a difficult shooting night, the best they could do was cutting it down to a five point game at one point in the fourth quarter before Barone delivered a dagger three pointer with under two minutes to play. Heat import Kyle Barone finished with a season high 33 points, 18 rebounds on 68% shooting to take home the MVP of the game award. VBA standouts Deangelo Hamilton and Chris Dierker both barely missed double-double's, recording 19 points, 9 rebounds and 9 points, 11 rebounds, respectively, while Murphy Burnatowski still had 17 markers off four outside shots to go along with four dimes and three blocks despite not having an efficient game (5-17 FG). On the other side, Mike Singletary record team-high numbers with 23 points and 12 boards but also five costly turnovers while his partner Jason Brickman put up 21 points, 7 rebounds but surprisingly, only two assists. Without the 7'2 Charles, coach Marty had to reach deep into the bench and one prominent name is Freddie Goldstein who concluded his ABL debut for Mono Vampire with six points and six rebounds. The Thai club's record now falls to 1-5 and they will look to get back to the last season version of themselves in the new year with a road game at Hong Kong on the 3rd of January. The Saigon Heat will have a 10-day rest before facing the Westport Malaysia Dragons in Kuala Lumpur on January 2.
