WSBL Round 3 (Regular Season): Taiyuan T. keep a leadership position

Taiyuan Textile smashed Chunghwa Telecom at home 98-46. Taiyuan T. dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Chunghwa Telecom's 34 and made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. Taiyuan T. forced 20 Chunghua T. turnovers and outrebounded them 42-25 including a 31-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Taiyuan T. looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Chunghua T.'s players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Taiyuan T. made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for German center Marie Guelich (194-1994, college: Oregon St.) who led her team to a victory scoring 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Pei-Zhen Luo (175-1998) helped adding 14 points. The best for the losing side was the former international power forward Hsiang-Ting Huang (180-1993) with 10 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Cathay Life (7-2) against Taiyuan Textile. Taiyuan Textile were defeated by Taiyuan Textile (8-1) 74-64. It was an exceptional evening for German center Marie Guelich (194-1994, college: Oregon St.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds. Tieh Lin accounted for 16 points and 5 rebounds. Taiyuan Textile's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. New Zealand forward Penina Davidson (190-1995, college: California) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds for Cathay Life in the defeat.
Very significant was Cathay Life's (#1, 7-2) victory against Taipower (0-9) 83-52. The best player for the winners was Penina Davidson who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds. Cathay Life's coach Hui-Yun Cheng felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Rui-Zhen Song who recorded 16 points and 5 rebounds.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 3: Taiyuan T. destroyed Taipower 84-46. Chunghua T. lost to defending champion Cathay Life 67-91. Chunghua T. managed to beat Taipower 67-61.

Taiyuan T. held Taipower to an opponent 23.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 48.4 percent accuracy of the winners. Taiyuan T. had a 34-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Taipower's players. Rather predictable result when Cathay Life (7-2) smashed Chunghwa Telecom (3-6) 91-67 on Saturday. Cathay Life outrebounded Chunghua T. 32-20 including 22 on the defensive glass. Cathay Life looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was New Zealand forward Penina Davidson (190-1995, college: California) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international forward Ling-Chuan Huang (175-1994) chipped in 21 points. Four Cathay Life players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Jia-Xuan Zhang (178) who recorded 12 points and the former international power forward Hsiang-Ting Huang (180-1993) added 7 points and 8 rebounds respectively.
