New Taipei Kings (PLeague+) added experienced 39-year-old American power forward Chris Johnson (210cm-107kg-1985, college: LSU, agency: Worldwide SM) to their roster for the 2024-25 season. He played last season with Ghost Ballers (Big3) in the U.S. Johnson played at Taipei Fubon Braves and in the Taiwanese PLeague+, where he had impressive stats: 22.0ppg, 12.7rpg, 4.3apg, and 1.7bpg in three East Asia Super League games, and 19.1ppg, 11.2rpg, 2.8apg, and 1.0bpg in 33 PLeague+ games. He was named League Player of the Week three times and voted to the Asia-basket.com All-Taiwanese PLeague+ Third Team.
In 2010, a year after graduating, he was drafted by the Dakota Wizards (D-League) in the first round (9th overall).
He graduated from Louisiana State University in 2009 and it'll be his 16th (!!!) season in pro basketball.
Johnson has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
He is a very experienced player. Thanks to Johnson's pro career, he managed to play on five different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America, Australia, and North America) in sixteen different countries. Johnson has played professionally in Bahrain (Al-Muharraq), China (Anhui Wenyi), Croatia (Cedevita), Dominican Republic (Parque Hostos), Japan (SeaHorses), Lebanon (Homentmen), New Zealand (Tuatara), Poland, Puerto Rico (Capitanes), Saudi Arabia (Al Nassr), Turkey (Turk Telekom), UAE, NBA (Cleveland Cavaliers, Portland Trail Blazers, and Minnesota Timberwolves), NBA G League (Santa Cruz Warriors), United Arab Emirates (Shabab Al Ahli), and Big3 (Triplets).
Among many awards, he played in the final of the New Zealand NBL in 2022. He was also selected as the Australiabasket.com All-New Zealand NBL Center of the Year in 2022. Johnson is close to retirement age as a player. It's very possible he may end his playing career with the Kings.
