SBL Round 10 (Regular Season): Bank of Taiwan defeat Taiwan Beer

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Taiwan Beer (20-10) against third ranked Bank of Taiwan on Saturday night. Bank of Taiwan were defeated by third ranked Bank of Taiwan (16-14) 81-71. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Bank of Taiwan made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of Canadian forward Maurice Calloo (208-1999, college: Oregon St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds (made all of his eleven free throws !!!). Guard Chia-Wei Chien (188-1998) contributed with 11 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Nigerian forward Gabriel Humphery (195-1997) replied with 22 points and 9 rebounds for Taiwan Beer. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bank of Taiwan have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Taiwan Beer at the other side still keeps top position with ten games lost.
Another interesting game for Bank of Taiwan (16-14) which played on the court of their biggest opponent Yulon Luxgen (15-15). Third ranked Bank of Taiwan won 82-74. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Canadian forward Maurice Calloo (208-1999, college: Oregon St.) had a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Jyun-Hao Lin chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. At the losing side forward Tsung-Han Huang (195-1996) responded with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Bank of Taiwan have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Defending champion Yulon Luxgen dropped to the third position with 15 games lost.
Very important is a loss of first ranked Taiwan Beer (20-10) against fourth ranked Changhua (9-21) on Sunday night. Taiwan Beer was defeated by Changhua 80-69. Erdenetsetseg Sugar-Ochir notched a double-double by scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field) to lead the effort. Changhua's coach Chun-Hsiung Wu used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. Even 17 points by Chun-Ting Lai did not help to save the game for Taiwan Beer. Changhua maintains fourth position with 9-21 record. Loser Taiwan Beer still keeps top place with ten games lost.

Other games in round 10 were not that significant. Bottom-ranked Changhua was smashed by Bank of Taiwan 89-64. Yulon Luxgen lost to Taiwan Beer 75-82. Yulon Luxgen managed to outperform Changhua 88-83.



Bank of Taiwan - Changhua 89-64

The game between closely ranked teams ended with third ranked Bank of Taiwan's (16-14) victory over bottom-ranked Changhua (9-21) 89-64 on Friday. Bank of Taiwan forced 19 Changhua turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Canadian forward Maurice Calloo (208-1999, college: Oregon St.) notched 22 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) to lead the effort and guard Chia-Wei Chien (188-1998) supported him with 14 points. Even 17 points and 9 rebounds (made all of his ten free throws !!!) by center Erdenetsetseg Sugar-Ochir (200-1999) did not help to save the game for Changhua. Guard Chen-Yuan Wang (176-1998) added 11 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Four Changhua players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bank of Taiwan have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Changhua lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 21 games lost.

Yulon Luxgen - Taiwan Beer 75-82

American power forward John Fields (205-1988, college: Tennessee) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the effort and Nigerian forward Gabriel Humphery (195-1997) supported him with 23 points and 7 rebounds. Even 14 points (made all of his seven free throws) by international center Shao-Fu Lan (195-1997) did not help to save the game for Yulon Luxgen. The former international center Shih-Yuan Chou (190-1983) added 16 points for lost side. Yulon Luxgen's coach Yung-Tai Wei rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Taiwan Beer maintains first position with 20-10 record. Defending champion Yulon Luxgen dropped to the third place with 15 games lost.

Changhua - Yulon Luxgen 83-88

Rather predictable result when second ranked Yulon Luxgen (15-15) won against bottom-ranked Changhua (9-21) 88-83 on Saturday. Guard Yi-Kang Tung Fang (181-1997) notched 16 points to lead the effort and Cheng-En Kao (178-1999) supported him with 17 points. Even a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds by center Erdenetsetseg Sugar-Ochir (200-1999) did not help to save the game for Changhua. Guard Chien-Chih Huang (189-1998) added 24 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all nine shots !!!) for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Despite that victory Yulon Luxgen went down to third position due to points difference. Changhua lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 21 games lost.

Changhua outrebounded Taiwan Beer 43-18 including a 33-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Center Erdenetsetseg Sugar-Ochir (200-1999) notched a double-double by scoring 29 points and 11 rebounds (on 12-of-13 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and guard Houng-Yang Tsai (183-2000) supported him with 15 points and 6 assists. Changhua's coach Chun-Hsiung Wu used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. Even 17 points by guard Chun-Ting Lai (187-2000) did not help to save the game for Taiwan Beer. Another interesting game for Bank of Taiwan (16-14) which played on the court of their biggest opponent Yulon Luxgen (15-15). Third ranked Bank of Taiwan won 82-74. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Bank of Taiwan dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Yulon Luxgen's 32 and made 21-of-25 charity shots (84.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Yulon Luxgen 46-29 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Yulon Luxgen was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch.
