Kupsas number one in Taiwan T1 League for round 21- February 6, 2023
The 31-year old player had a double-double of 41 points and 16 rebounds, while his team beat TB Herobears (#4, 7-7) 122-117. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Kaohsiung A. maintains the 2nd position in Taiwanese T1 League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Kaohsiung A. will need more victories to improve their 11-5 record. It's Kupsas' second year at Kaohsiung A. and it's hard to imagine this team without him. Mindaugas Kupsas has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (6th best: 21.1ppg), rebounds (4th best: 11.4rpg) and averages impressive 1.4bpg and 55.3% FGP. The second best player in last round's games was young American Branden Dawson (200-F-1993) of TB Herobears. Dawson had a very good evening with a double-double of 28 points and 17 rebounds. Bad luck as TB Herobears lost that game 117-122 to slightly higher-ranked Kaohsiung A. (#2, 11-5). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. TB Herobears still maintains its place in the top 4 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team's 7-7 record is not bad at all. Dawson is a newcomer at TB Herobears, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 21.5ppg (#5). His other stats are also decent: 12.0rpg and 3.8apg. Third on the list of top players last round was American forward Marlon Johnson (208-PF-1994) of Taichung Suns (#5). Johnson got into 30-points club by scoring 33 points in the last round. He went also for thirteen rebounds and four assists. Despite Johnson's great performance Taichung Suns lost 100-110 to the higher-ranked N.Taipei CTBC (#1, 11-4). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. The chances of Taichung Suns not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 9 games, recording just five victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Johnson could try to bring Taichung Suns' a little bit higher in the standings. Johnson has a very solid season. In 6 games in Taiwan he scored 15.7ppg. He also has 8.0rpg, 3.3apg, 1.7bpg and and 3PT: 41.2%. Other top performing players last week: 4. Nick King (201-F-1995) of N.Taipei CTBC - 41 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists 5. Yu-An Chiang (174-PG-1991) of TB Herobears - 28 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists 6. Aaron Geramipoor (213-C-1992) of Taichung Suns - 22 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists 7. Kristijan Krajina (208-C-1990) of N.Taipei CTBC - 22 points and 9 rebounds 8. Ya-Hsuan Hsieh (187-G-1998) of N.Taipei CTBC - 13 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists 9. Jason Brickman (183-G-1991) of Kaohsiung A. - 21 points, 4 rebounds and 13 assists 10. Huan-Ya Yu (182-G-1993) of Kaohsiung A. - 22 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
