T1 League Round 16: TB Herobears beat GhostHawks by three after a very close game- January 4, 2023

Taichung Suns - Taoyuan L. 96-71 The game between closely ranked teams ended with fifth ranked Suns' (5-6) victory over bottom-ranked Leopards (1-9) 96-71. Suns dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Leopards' 28. They outrebounded Leopards 52-36 including a 42-29 advantage in defensive rebounds. Suns players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Leopards' players. Worth to mention a great performance of Panamanian forward Tony Bishop (202-1989, college: Texas St., agency: 011 Sports) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points and 16 rebounds and Iranian-British center Aaron Geramipoor (213-1992, college: Seton Hall) who added 24 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. At the losing side Polish center Adam Lapeta (217-1987, agency: Interperformances) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 17 rebounds and 4 blocks and Nigerian-American guard Michael Efevberha (195-1984, college: CSUN) scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Four Leopards players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Suns maintains fifth position with 5-6 record. Leopards lost eighth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with nine games lost. Suns will play against higher ranked TB Herobears (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Leopards will have a break next round. First ranked N.Taipei CTBC had an easy win 112-75. N.Taipei CTBC forced 19 TB Herobears turnovers and had a 39-26 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Croatian center Kristijan Krajina (208-1990, college: Mt.St.Mary's, agency: 011 Sports) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds and the former international forward Mohammad Al Bachir (188-1998) who added 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Four N.Taipei CTBC players scored in double figures. N.Taipei CTBC's coach Yi-hua Lee felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American forward Branden Dawson (200-1993, college: Michigan St.) responded with 22 points and 8 rebounds and the former international point guard Yu-An Chiang (174-1991) scored 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. N.Taipei CTBC have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 9-3 record. TB Herobears at the other side keep the fourth place with five games lost. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of GhostHawks. Strangely GhostHawks outrebounded TB Herobears 49-29 including a 24-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 51.6 percentage. TB Herobears looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Branden Dawson (200-1993, college: Michigan St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 28 points, 15 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. The former international swingman Chi-Wei Lee (192-1993) contributed with 33 points (!!!) and 4 assists for the winners. Maltese center Samuel Deguara (230-1991) replied with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 14 rebounds (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field) and Indian-Canadian center Sim Bhullar (226-1992, college: NM State) added 24 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for GhostHawks. Four TB Herobears and five GhostHawks players scored in double figures. TB Herobears maintains fourth position with 5-5 record. GhostHawks at the other side keep the third place with six games lost. TB Herobears are looking forward to face Suns (#5) in Taichung in the next round. GhostHawks will play on the road against the league's second-placed Aquas in Kaohsiung and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
