T1 League Round 22: TB Herobears defeat Suns in the closest game of the week

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in T1 League. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 22 in the T1 League ended with only one-point defeat of their biggest opponent Suns (15-9) to third ranked TB Herobears (15-11) 119-118 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Suns. They outrebounded Suns 60-42 including a 43-29 advantage in defensive rebounds. TB Herobears looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American power forward Diamond Stone (210-1997, college: Maryland) had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Maltese center Samuel Deguara (230-1991) chipped in 31 points and 17 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) during the contest. At the losing side American guard Anthony Tucker (193-1989, college: MSUM) responded with 38 points (!!!) and 9 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. TB Herobears have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 15-11 record having three points less than leader Kaohsiung A. Suns at the other side keep the second place with nine games lost. TB Herobears will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Suns will play on the road against GhostHawks in Tainan and are hoping to win this game.
Very important is a loss of third ranked TB Herobears (15-11) against sixth ranked GhostHawks (5-19) on Sunday night. TB Herobears were defeated by GhostHawks 122-109. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of TB Herobears. Costa Rican-Belizean Charles Garcia (208-1988, college: Seattle) notched a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 assists to lead the effort and Will Artino supported him with 22 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 21 points and 8 assists by American swingman Tony Mitchell (198-1989, college: Alabama) did not help to save the game for TB Herobears. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. GhostHawks maintains sixth position with 5-19 record. TB Herobears at the other side keep the third place with 11 games lost. GhostHawks will play against league's second-placed Suns in Taichung in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. TB Herobears will have a break next round.
Very significant was Aquas' (#1, 19-6) victory against 4th ranked N.Taipei CTBC (14-11) 123-92. Mindaugas Kupsas fired a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Aaron Epps produced 26 points and 9 rebounds for lost side. Aquas have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 19-6 record. Loser N.Taipei CTBC keeps the fourth place with 11 games lost. Aquas will meet Leopards (#5) in the next round. N.Taipei CTBC will play against the league's second-placed Suns and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 22 N.Taipei CTBC won against Taoyuan L. 139-121.



Taoyuan L. - N.Taipei CTBC 121-139

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Leopards' (5-17) loss to fourth ranked N.Taipei CTBC (14-11) 121-139 on Saturday. N.Taipei CTBC dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Leopards' 52. They outrebounded Leopards 55-43 including a 45-33 advantage in defensive rebounds. N.Taipei CTBC looked well-organized offensively handing out 42 assists comparing to just 26 passes made by Leopards' players. American Marlon Johnson (208-1994, college: NMHU) fired a triple-double by scoring 41 points (!!!), 21 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals for the winners. The other American import forward Aaron Epps (207-1996, college: LSU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. American point guard John Gillon (183-1994, college: Syracuse) produced a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 17 assists and guard Wei Cheng (180-1991) added 23 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. N.Taipei CTBC maintains fourth position with 14-11 record. Leopards lost third consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with 17 games lost. N.Taipei CTBC will meet league's second-placed Suns in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Leopards will play against the league's leader Aquas and hope to secure a win.
