SBL Round 21: #1 Taiwan Beer is defeated by Yulon Luxgen- April 25, 2021
The Regular Season in SBL just ended. There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with defeat of the leader and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
Yulon Luxgen - Taiwan Beer 83-61 The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Taiwan Beer (31-9) against second ranked Yulon Luxgen on Friday night. Yulon Luxgen were rolled over by Yulon Luxgen 83-61. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Yulon Luxgen dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Taiwan Beer's 26. They outrebounded Taiwan Beer 46-29 including 33 on the defensive glass. Yulon Luxgen looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. U.S. Virgin Islands forward Rakeem Christmas (206-91, college: Syracuse) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and international Po-Chen Chou (196-90) chipped in 11 points and 6 rebounds. Four Yulon Luxgen players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international center Shih-En Fan (198-94) with 7 points and 4 assists and swingman Hao-Ji Wang (195-93) scored 5 points and 10 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Yulon Luxgen maintains second place with 26-15 record having four points less than leader Taiwan Beer. Defending champion Taiwan Beer still keeps top position with nine games lost. Bank of Taiwan was defeated by Pauian in a tough game 77-85. Center Dan Qiao (200-92) nailed a double-double by scoring 23 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists for the winning side and the former international power forward Li-Huang Wen (200-93) accounted for 14 points and 8 rebounds. American swingman Zak Irvin (198-94, college: Michigan) came up with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists and international center Zong-Rong Hsieh (200-95) added 11 points and 12 rebounds respectively for Bank of Taiwan in the defeat. Five Pauian and four Bank of Taiwan players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pauian have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Bank of Taiwan lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with 24 games lost. (13-26) on Saturday night. Taiwan Beer was defeated by Jutai Techn. 95-82. They made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Jutai Techn. looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was American swingman Jordan Caroline (201-96, college: Nevada) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Huan-Ya Yu (183-93) chipped in 16 points and 7 assists. Five Jutai Techn. players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Hao-Ji Wang (195-93) who recorded 13 points and 7 rebounds and the former international Po-Hsun Chou (197-91) added 8 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Despite that victory Jutai Techn. went down to fifth position due to points difference. Yulon Luxgen forced 19 Bank of Taiwan turnovers. It was a good game for U.S. Virgin Islands forward Rakeem Christmas (206-91, college: Syracuse) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds. The former international guard Kai-Hsiang Hu (190-91) contributed with 7 points for the winners. The former international guard Po-Sheng Chang (185-87) answered with 15 points and 7 rebounds and the former international guard Yu-Jui Chen (185-95) added 6 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Bank of Taiwan. Center Dan Qiao (200-92) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 17 rebounds for the winners and guard Jun-Xiang Lu (188-97) chipped in 16 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Pauian players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American swingman Jordan Caroline (201-96, college: Nevada) with a double-double by scoring 43 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds and center Hong-Xing Wu (203-88) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Pauian. They moved-up to fourth place. Jutai Techn. at the other side dropped to the bottom position with 26 games lost. The former international Po-Hsun Chou (197-91) stepped up and scored 9 points and 11 rebounds for the winners and American forward JD Miller (203-96, college: TCU) chipped in 8 points and 10 rebounds.
