SBL Round 6: Leader KKL loses to Dacin Tigers - Dec 24, 2018

There were many interesting games last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Top ranked KKL (10-3) recorded its third loss against fourth ranked Dacin Tigers on Saturday night. Dacin Tigers were edged by fourth ranked Dacin Tigers (5-7) 97-95. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of KKL. Dacin Tigers made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was American center Anthony McClain (211-88, college: Cincinnati) who scored 32 points and 8 rebounds. The former international forward Yi-Hui Lin (193-86) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Walter Sharpe (206-86, college: UAB) who recorded 40 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Despite that victory Dacin Tigers went down to fifth position due to points difference, which they share with Pauian. KKL at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. Dacin Tigers is looking forward to face league's second-placed Taiwan Beer in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. KKL will play again against Dacin Tigers in Taipei and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a loss of second ranked Taiwan Beer (8-5) against sixth ranked Fubon Braves (6-7) on Saturday night. Taiwan Beer was defeated by Fubon Braves in a tough game 80-85. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Taiwan Beer. It was a good game for Costa Rican-Belizean forward Charles Garcia (208-88, college: Seattle) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds. Tony Mitchell contributed with 16 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 8 blocks for the winners. Ukrainian power forward Igor Zaytsev (210-89) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds for Taiwan Beer. Taiwan Beer's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Fubon Braves moved-up to fourth place. Taiwan Beer at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. Fubon Braves will play against bottom-ranked Bank of Taiwan (#7) in the next round. Taiwan Beer will play against Pauian (#5) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Taiwan Beer. Kyle Meyer had a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners. The best for the losing side was Igor Zaytsev with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains fifth position with 5-7 record, which they share with Dacin Tigers. Loser Taiwan Beer keeps the second place with five games lost. Pauian will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Taiwan Beer will play again against Pauian and hope to secure a win.
An exciting game was when third ranked Third ranked Yulon Luxgen faced 4th ranked Dacin Tigers. Yulon Luxgen (8-6) defeated Dacin Tigers (5-7) 90-78. Sani Sakakini notched 31 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Yulon Luxgen maintains third position with 8-6 record having just one point less than leader KKL. Dacin Tigers at the other side dropped to the fifth place with seven games lost. Yulon Luxgen's next round opponent will be league's leader KKL and it will be for sure the game of the week. Dacin Tigers will play against the league's leader KKL (#1) and hope to win that game.

Bank of Taiwan will play against Fubon Braves and hope to win that game.

Rest of the games of round 6 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Yulon Luxgen crushed Pauian 93-74. Yulon Luxgen beat Bank of Taiwan 97-89. Fubon Braves won against Bank of Taiwan 103-87.



Pauian - Yulon Luxgen 74-93

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Pauian (5-7) was crushed by third ranked Yulon Luxgen (8-6) 93-74 on Friday. Yulon Luxgen dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Pauian's 26 and made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Pauian 40-26 including 32 on the defensive glass. Yulon Luxgen looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was Palestinian center Sani Sakakini (204-88) who had a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 14 rebounds and 4 assists. American power forward Eric Dawson (206-84, college: Midwestern St., agency: Interperformances) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Dawson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Kyle Meyer (208-93, college: Houston) who recorded 10 points and 7 rebounds and Chin-Yao Yao (187-90) added 13 points and 5 assists respectively. Four Pauian players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Yulon Luxgen maintains third position with 8-6 record having just one point less than leader KKL. Defending champion Pauian keeps the fifth place with seven games lost. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 13 blocks. GARRET SILER Guaiqueries de Margarita (LPB) strengthened their roster with addition of 32-year old American center Garret Siler (213-127kg-86, college: Augusta).
