Qatari basketball team beat Syria in Jordan International

Doha: The Qatari national basketball team secured a commendable victory in the opening match of the 12th King Abdullah II International Basketball Cup, triumphing over the Syrian team with a score of 75-66. This game took place on Saturday evening at Prince Hamzah Hall in Amman, Jordan.

From the outset, the Qatari team demonstrated its dominance, concluding the four quarters with scores of 25-14, 21-21, 15-16, and 14-15 in their favor. Although the Syrian team exhibited a strong performance, the Qatari squad maintained its lead through tactical discipline and cohesive teamwork.

Following the game, Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari, Secretary General of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Head of the National Team Mission, expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, stating, "We are grateful for this significant victory. The team showcased commendable performance at the start of our tournament journey, and this win serves as a substantial morale boost as we continue to compete." He further remarked, "We view this tournament as a crucial opportunity to prepare the team for the Asian qualifiers for the 2025 Asian Cup. We have confidence in our players' capabilities to excel in the forthcoming matches."

This year, the tournament features four participating teams: Qatar, Palestine, Syria, and the host nation, Jordan.

The Qatari team is scheduled to face the Palestinian team on Sunday evening, November 17, and will conclude its matches against the Jordanian team on Monday, November 18. This tournament serves as an ideal preparation for the Qatari team ahead of their upcoming match against the Indian team on November 21 in India, as part of the 2025 Asian Cup qualifiers, followed by another match against the Iranian team in Doha on November 25 at Al Gharafa Hall.
