Indonesia opened their Asian Championship campaign with victory. They toppled Sri Lanka in Level II battle in Omura. Yunita Sugianto (167-PG-87) scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds to lead the charge.
Indonesia fired 23 points to surge ahead for six points at the first break. They maintained the lead throughout the second period. Indonesia posted a 40:31 halftime lead. Sri Lanka managed just 6 points in the third frame to face a massive 20-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter. Sri Lanka finally showed some signs of recovery in the fourth term. They cut the deficit but never threatened the margin as Indonesia cruised to the victory at the end. Maharani Adhipuspitasari (172-G-86) provided 11 points, while Yulinda Wati (174-F-87) and Wulan Ningrum (174-G/F-85) had 8 points each in the victory. Inoka Juwan Pedige (82) responded with 16 points for Sri Lanka. Solange Gunawijeya (91) had 11 points in the loss.
