Sanduni Perera (163-F-93) hit a late bucket to propel Sri Lanka to the second win at the U18 Asia Championship in Thailand. They held off Syria to finish the tournament at 2-3 record. Syria debuted with one win in five games played. Sanduni Perera and Buddika Wijenayake (162-G-92) scored 15 points each to lead the effort.
Syria were more successful in the opening quarter. They tallied a narrow 10:8 lead ten minutes into the game. Syria stretched the margin to 4 points midway through the second quarter. But Sri Lanka responded with an 8:3 run to take a 23:21 advantage at halftime. Sri Lanka boosted the gap to 12 points in the third stanza. They secured a 40:32 lead heading into the fourth period. Syria restored the intrigue as they erased the deficit in the dying minutes. They leveled things up at 49 before Sanduni Perera came up with her last seconds heroics.
Thushani Rajapakshe (170-F-93) and Andrea Fernando (175-F/C-94) delivered 6 points each for Sri Lanka. Gasia Sarkis (180-C-92) dropped 11 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Syria. Rimyal Dahdouh (165-F-94) had 8 points in the loss.
