Sri Lanka posted their initial win at the U18 Asia Championship in Thailand. They bruised Laos to improve at 1-3 record in Level II standings. Laos meanwhile suffered the fourth straight defeat at the tournament.
Laos got to a surprisingly good start. They were up by one midway through the first term. Sri Lanka exploded with a 16:2 run to cap the frame as they grabbed a 26:13 advantage at the first break. They opened the second period on a 15:2 rally to clear off. Laos managed just seven points in the second quarter and faced a 35-point deficit at halftime. Laos could not turn things around in the third stanza. Sri Lanka maintained a firm grasp on the lead as Laos stood no chance. Sri Lanka controlled the tempo and sealed the winning outcome at the end.
Lokukatagodage notched 23 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists to pace Sri Lanka. Buddika Wijenayake (162-G-92) accounted for 18 points and 8 caroms in the victory. Manivanh Oulavong (165-F/C-93) replied with 11 points and 17 rebounds for Laos. Vatsana Souksavath (163-F-94) netted 10 points in the losing effort.
