Philippines - Sri Lanka 115-31
Philippines totally destroyed Sri Lanka today 115-31. That was the opening game of FIBA Asia Championship 2009 in Tianjin, China. Jared Dillinger (191-G/F-84, college: Hawaii) dominated in all basketball element today jumping to 1-0 in Preliminary Group A. Team Philippines had couple of players in a game mood, actually six with double-digits in scoring. Jared Dillinger was the best one with 21 points and 11 boards, while Arwind Santos (193-F-81) added 16 pts. Pauliasi Taulava (206-C-73, college: BYU-Hawaii), Japeth Aguilar (206-C-87) and Cyrus Baguio (188-G-80) scored 15 pts apiece (first two had double-double). Sri Lanka did not have anyone with 10 or more. The leading scorer was Duke Sanjeewa Rajapakshe (-76) with 8 pts.
Opening ten minutes sent a clear signal how this game is going to end as Philippines already created impressive 28-9 lead. Nothing has changed after that. Philippines dominated until the end finished second quarter 16-8 and third with unbelievable 42-9. In the last ten minutes Sri Lanka scored only 5 points. Interesting is that Sri Lanka finished the game with just 13 rebounds. They also had 21 turnovers and poor 19% form the field.
Tomorrow, Philippines will meet Japan. Sri Lanka will take on South Korea.
