KBL Round 4 (Regular Season): LG Sakers keep a leadership position

KBL Regular Season is still in too early stage and there may be still significant changes in the standings. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for fifth-ranked Sakers as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Sakers defeated much higher ranked Sonicboom in Changwon 69-53. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Sonicboom. It was a key game for the top position in the league. LG Sakers held Suwon KT to an opponent 23.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 42.2 percent accuracy of the winners. LG Sakers looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Egyptian center Assem Marei (206-1992, college: MSU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 23 rebounds and who added 14 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side responded with 11 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sakers have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with KCC Egis and Wonju DB. Suwon KT at the other side dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Anyang. Suwon KT will play next round against Daegu trying to get back on the winning streak. LG Sakers will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Seoul Thunders at home.
Important game to mention about took place in Anyang. Seventh ranked Samsung Thunders (2-2) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging higher ranked Anyang (3-2) 83-80 on Sunday evening. The winners were led by Canadian Andrew Nicholson (206-1989, college: St.Bonaventure) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds and Dae-Sung Lee supported him with 12 points and 7 assists. Even 25 points and 8 rebounds by Filipino Rhenz Abando (188-1998) did not help to save the game for Anyang. Anyang's coach Seung-Ki Kim tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Seoul Thunders moved-up to sixth place. Anyang at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with Suwon KT. Seoul Thunders will play against league's leader LG Sakers in Changwon in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Anyang will play on the road against the league's leader LG Sakers in Changwon and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Daegu (0-5) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fifth consecutive match to ninth ranked Skygunners (2-3) 86-80 on Sunday evening. Kevin Karl fired a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Ricardo Ratliffe produced 25 points and 9 rebounds for lost side. Daegu's coach let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Sono SG moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Mobis Phoebus and Seoul Knights. Loser Daegu still closes the standings with five games lost. Sono SG will meet higher ranked Wonju DB (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Daegu will play against Suwon KT (#5) in Busan and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last two games of round 4 KCC Egis won against Seoul Knights on the opponent's court 75-67. Mobis Phoebus managed to outperform Daegu in a home game 82-77.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 25 points and 12 rebounds by Rayshaun Hammonds of Mobis Phoebus.




Daegu - Sono SG 80-86

Bottom-ranked Daegu (0-5) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fifth consecutive match to ninth ranked Skygunners (2-3) 86-80 on Sunday evening. Sono SG made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Sono SG made 7 blocks. fired a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. American power forward Nathan Knight (208-1997, college: William & Mary) chipped in a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds. The former international forward Ricardo Ratliffe (203-1989, college: Missouri) produced 25 points and 9 rebounds and Filipino guard Samjosef Belangel (177-1999) added 22 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. KCC Egis outrebounded Seoul Knights 40-24 including 27 on the defensive glass. American forward Shawn Long (208-1993, college: Louisiana, agency: Pensack Sports) fired a double-double by scoring 28 points and 19 rebounds for the winners. chipped in 23 points and 5 rebounds. American center Jameel Warney (203-1994, college: Stony Brook) produced 20 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists and his fellow American import power forward Nathan Knight (208-1997, college: William & Mary) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Four Seoul Knights players scored in double figures. Egis have a solid three-game winning streak. KCC Egis keep a position of league leader, which they share with LG Sakers and Wonju DB. Seoul Knights lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with three games lost. They share the position with Mobis Phoebus and Sono SG. KCC Egis will meet Wonju DB (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Seoul Knights will play against Mobis Phoebus (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
