Doha, Qatar – The Qatar senior men’s basketball team continues its rigorous preparations in Seoul, South Korea, as part of the third phase of its training program for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from August 5 to 17. The tournament will feature 16 of Asia’s top national teams. On Friday evening, Qatar played its first friendly match against South Korea at Anyang Sports Complex, with the host nation securing a 90-71 victory. The match served as a valuable technical test, allowing head coach Hakan Demir to field a wide range of players and experiment with various defensive and offensive strategies. The team is set to conclude its training camp in South Korea with a second and final friendly match against the same opponent on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the same venue. This camp marks a critical step in Qatar’s preparations for the continental championship. The training camp is being overseen by Mr. Mohammed bin Saad Al-Mughaiseeb, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation, who attended the team’s training sessions and the first friendly match. He also held several coordination meetings with South Korean Basketball Federation officials to explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation and the exchange of technical and administrative expertise. Leading the delegation in South Korea is Mr. Saadoun Sabah Al-Kuwari, Director of National Teams and General Secretary of the Qatar Basketball Federation, who is closely monitoring the team’s technical and administrative progress. This training phase follows earlier camps in Turkey and Doha. The team will enter a fourth and final preparation stage in Doha, participating in an international friendly tournament at Lusail Multipurpose Hall from July 28 to August 1, featuring teams from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Japan. In the FIBA Asia Cup draw, Qatar was placed in Group A alongside Australia, South Korea, and Lebanon. The team will kick off its campaign against Lebanon on August 6, 2025. |
