KBL Round 23: KCC Egis are upset by Mobis Phoebus

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game between third ranked KCC Egis (17-11) and eighth ranked Mobis Phoebus (12-16) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. KCC Egis were defeated by Mobis Phoebus in a tough game in Jeonju 83-92. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of KCC Egis. Mobis Phoebus looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Dong-Geun Yang (181-81) who scored 26 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international power forward Ji-Hoon Ham (198-84) chipped in 16 points and 10 assists. Mobis Phoebus' coach Jae-Hak Yoo used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international forward Jung-Hyun Lee (191-87) produced 24 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the hosts. Mobis Phoebus have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains eighth place with 12-16 record. KCC Egis at the other side keep the third position with 11 games lost. Mobis Phoebus are looking forward to face higher ranked ET Land Elephants (#4) in Inchon in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. KCC Egis will have a break next round.

They keep the fifth position with 13 games lost. SK Knights will play against bottom-ranked Goyang Orions (#10) in Daegu in the next round and are hoping to win another game. DB Promy will have a break next round.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Busan. Local KT Sonicboom (14-14) beat 9th ranked LG Sakers (9-19) 84-66 on Tuesday night. Worth to mention a quality performance of Byron Mullens who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Cady Lalanne responded with 31 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. KT Sonicboom maintains sixth place with 14-14 record. LG Sakers lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 19 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last game of round 23 ET Land defeated Goyang Orions in Inchon 78-65.



SK Knights - DB Promy 85-69

Leader SK Knights delivered the nineteenth victory. This time they beat 5th ranked DB Promy (14-13) 85-69 in Seoul. They keep the fifth position with 13 games lost. SK Knights will play against bottom-ranked Goyang Orions (#10) in Daegu in the next round and are hoping to win another game. There was no surprise in Daegu where 10th ranked Goyang Orions (8-19) were defeated by fourth ranked ET Land Elephants (15-12) 78-65 on Sunday. It was a great evening for American forward Troy Gillenwater (205-88, college: N.Mexico St.) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Guard Nak-Hyun Kim (180-95) helped adding 14 points. Serbian-Montenegrin forward Boris Savovic (208-87, agency: BeoBasket) responded with 10 points and 6 rebounds and the former international center Jae-Seok Jang (205-91) scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. ET Land Elephants have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 15-12 record. Loser Goyang Orions stay at the bottom position with 19 games lost. ET Land Elephants will meet Mobis Phoebus (#8) in the next round. Goyang Orions will play against Samsung Thunders in Seoul and hope to secure a win.
