KBL Round 11: SK Knights edge Mobis Phoebus by one point - Nov 13, 2017

Fifth-ranked Mobis Phoebus (6-7) made lots of trouble for first ranked SK Knights (11-2) in Seoul on Sunday. SK Knights managed to secure only one-point victory 105-104. However their fans expected much easier game. SK Knights dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Mobis Phoebus' 48. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Mobis Phoebus helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American forward Aaron Haynes (201-81, college: Boise St.) who had a triple-double by scoring 43 points (!!!), 15 rebounds and 10 assists. The former international center Min-Soo Kim (200-82) chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds. American forward Marqus Blakely (201-88, college: Vermont) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists for the guests. Mobis Phoebus' coach Jae-Hak Yoo rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. SK Knights have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 11-2 record. Mobis Phoebus at the other side dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. They share it with Samsung Th.. SK Knights are looking forward to face KCC Egis (#3) in Jeonju in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Mobis Phoebus will play on the road against Sonic Boom KT in Busan and are hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked ET Land Elephants (8-5) against fourth ranked KCC Egis (8-5) on Sunday night. Visiting ET Land Elephants were defeated by KCC Egis in a tough game in Jeonju 76-83. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of ET Land Elephants. American power forward Charles Rhodes (203-85, college: Mississippi St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Tony Akins contributed with 22 points and 6 steals (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners. American point guard Josh Selby (188-91, college: Kansas, agency: HMS) answered with 24 points for ET Land Elephants. KCC Egis moved-up to third place, which they share with ET Land. KCC Egis will play against league's leader SK Knights in Seoul in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. ET Land Elephants will play on the road against LG Sakers in Changwon and hope to get back on the winning track.
The game in Anyang was also quite interesting. 7th ranked LG Sakers (5-7) played at the court of eighth ranked Anyang KGC (6-6). Anyang KGC managed to secure a 9-point victory 80-71 on Sunday. It was a great evening for David Simon who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 10 rebounds. Anyang KGC's coach Yu-Wan Song used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. James Kelly responded with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Defending champion moved-up to fifth place. Loser LG Sakers dropped to the eighth position with seven games lost. Anyang KGC will meet Goyang Orions (#9) in the next round. LG Sakers will play against ET Land Elephants and hope to secure a win.

DB Promy - Sonic Boom KT 82-73

The game with biggest result difference took place in Wonju. Local DB Promy (8-3) beat 10th ranked Sonic Boom KT (1-11) 82-73. They outrebounded Sonic Boom KT 46-29 including a 34-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. DB Promy players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. His fellow American import power forward Rodrique Benson (207-84, college: California) accounted for 16 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Four DB Promy players scored in double figures. International point guard Jae-Do Lee (180-91) came up with 21 points and 7 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and American forward Wendell McKines (198-88, college: N.Mexico St.) added 19 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Sonic Boom KT in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. DB Promy maintains second place with 8-3 record having five points less than leader SK Knights. There was no surprise in Inchon where 9th ranked Goyang Orions (3-9) were defeated by third ranked ET Land Elephants (8-5) 80-71. It was an exceptional evening for American Brandon Brown (201-85, college: CS San Bernar.) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. His fellow American import point guard Josh Selby (188-91, college: Kansas, agency: HMS) accounted for 22 points and 5 assists for the winning side. Brown is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American power forward Vernon Macklin (208-86, college: Florida) came up with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and guard Kang-Sun Kim (190-86) added 12 points respectively for Goyang Orions in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Goyang Orions' coach Il-Seung Choo tested twelve players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. ET Land Elephants have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain third place with 8-5 record having just three points less than leader SK Knights, which they share with KCC Egis. Goyang Orions lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with nine games lost. ET Land Elephants' next round opponent will be LG Sakers (#8) in Changwon which should be theoretically an easy game. Goyang Orions will play on the road against Samsung Thunders in Seoul and hope to win that game.

Naturalized American guard Tony Akins (180-80, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Court Side) contributed with 22 points and 6 steals (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners. Samsung Thunders dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Mobis Phoebus' 38. They outrebounded Mobis Phoebus 39-21 including a 28-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. Samsung Thunders players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Ricardo Ratliffe (203-89, college: Missouri) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 24 rebounds (on 17-of-22 shooting from the field). Guard Koahn-Huhi Ngi (190-88) accounted for 12 points and 4 steals for the winning side. American forward Reyshawn Terry (203-84, college: N.Carolina) came up with 30 points (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and the former international power forward Ji-Hoon Ham (198-84) added 12 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Mobis Phoebus in the defeat. Four Mobis Phoebus players scored in double figures. Samsung Thunders moved-up to sixth place, which they share with defeated Mobis Phoebus.
