KBL Round 39 (Regular Season): Seoul Knights are upset by Daegu

The game between third ranked Knights (27-16) and tenth ranked Daegu (13-30) was the most important one in the last round on Thursday night. Knights were defeated by Daegu in a tough game in Incheon 80-86. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Knights. The best player for the winners was Filipino guard Samjosef Belangel (177-1999) who scored 27 points. The former international forward Ricardo Ratliffe (203-1989, college: Missouri) chipped in 15 points and 13 rebounds. Daegu's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Jameel Warney (203-1994, college: Stony Brook) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Daegu moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Seoul Thunders. Seoul Knights at the other side keep the third position with 16 games lost. Daegu is looking forward to face league's second-placed Anyang on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Seoul Knights will play against Suwon KT in Busan and are hoping to win this game.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Anyang. Third ranked Anyang faced 4th placed Wonju DB. Host Anyang (27-15) smashed guests from Wonju (26-16) 89-59. It was a good game for international guard Yuhyeon Moon (189-2004) who led his team to a victory with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Bryce Washington contributed with 10 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Hyo-Geun Jeong (200-1993) answered with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for Wonju DB. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Anyang moved-up to second place. Wonju DB at the other side keeps the fourth position with 16 games lost. Anyang will play against Daegu (#9) in Incheon in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Wonju DB will play at home against Sono SG (#7) and hopes to get back on the winning track.

The best for the losing side was Shawn Long with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 16 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains first place with 30-13 record. Loser Egis keep the fifth position with 21 games lost. LG Sakers will meet at home Mobis Phoebus (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. KCC Egis will play against Seoul Thunders and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 39 Seoul Thunders were crushed by Sono SG in Daegu 86-64.



KCC Egis - LG Sakers 74-94

Leader Sakers delivered the thirtieth victory on Wednesday night. This time they crushed 5th ranked Egis (21-21) 94-74 in Busan. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Egis. LG Sakers looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for Egyptian center Assem Marei (206-1992, college: MSU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. The former international guard Junseok Yang (179-2001) helped adding 13 points and 9 assists. The best for the losing side was American forward Shawn Long (208-1993, college: Louisiana, agency: Pensack Sports) with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 16 rebounds and the former international guard Hoon Heo (181-1995) scored 14 points and 8 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains first place with 30-13 record. Loser Egis keep the fifth position with 21 games lost. LG Sakers will meet at home Mobis Phoebus (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. KCC Egis will play against Seoul Thunders and hope to secure a win.

There was no surprise in Daegu where 9th ranked Samsung Thunders (13-30) were crushed by seventh ranked Skygunners (20-23) 86-64 on Thursday. Sono SG outrebounded Seoul Thunders 47-32 including 35 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for Filipino Kevin Quiambao (193-2001) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American power forward Nathan Knight (208-1997, college: William & Mary) helped adding 11 points and 16 rebounds. Four Skygunners players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Kwan-hee Lee (-1988) with 14 points and 6 assists and Turkish power forward Kerem Kanter (208-1995, college: Xavier) scored 11 points and 9 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Skygunners have a solid series of three victories in a row. Sono SG maintains seventh place with 20-23 record. Loser Samsung Thunders dropped to the bottom. They share the position with Daegu. Sono SG will meet higher ranked Wonju DB (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Seoul Thunders will play against KCC Egis (#5) and hope to secure a win.
