KBL Round 37 (Regular Season): Seoul Knights beat Anyang by three after a very close game

The most exciting game of round 37 in the KBL took place in Seoul. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of their biggest opponent Anyang (26-15) to third ranked Knights (26-15) 80-77 in the game for the second place. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Anyang. Seoul Knights shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 59.1 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Jameel Warney (203-1994, college: Stony Brook) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international forward Youngjun An (195-1995) contributed with 17 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. American power forward Johnny OBryant III (207-1993, college: LSU, agency: Slash Sports) answered with 26 points and 8 rebounds for Anyang. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Knights have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Seoul Knights moved-up to second place, which they share with defeated Anyang. Seoul Knights' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Seoul to the arena Seoul Thunders.
Important game to mention about took place in Busan. Fifth ranked Egis (21-20) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 6th ranked Sonicboom (20-22) 83-81 in the fight for the fifth place. American forward Shawn Long (208-1993, college: Louisiana, agency: Pensack Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 21 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Ung Heo chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side guard Sungwook Kang (183-2004) responded with 25 points. Sonicboom's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. KCC Egis maintains fifth place with 21-20 record. Suwon KT at the other side keeps the sixth position with 22 games lost. KCC Egis will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Suwon KT will play on the road against Daegu (#10) in Incheon and hopes to get back on the winning track.
An interesting game for Sakers (29-12) which hosted in Changwon 3rd placed Wonju DB (25-15). First ranked Sakers had an easy win 80-58. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Wonju DB. Micheal Eric nailed a double-double by scoring 22 points and 18 rebounds (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Essam Mostafa came up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds for Wonju DB in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 29-12 record. Loser Wonju DB dropped to the fourth position with 15 games lost. LG Sakers will meet at home Sono SG (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Wonju DB will play against Mobis Phoebus and hope to secure a win.

Other games in round 37 were not that significant. Bottom-ranked Seoul Thunders beat Daegu on the road 87-71. Mobis Phoebus lost to Sono SG on its own court 76-87. Daegu unfortunately lost to KCC Egis in Busan 76-88.
The most impressive performance of 37th round was 35 points (!!!), 16 rebounds and 7 assists by Kerem Kanter of Seoul Thunders.



Daegu - Seoul Thunders 71-87

Everything could happen in Incheon at the game between two tied teams. Both tenth ranked Samsung Thunders and 9th ranked Daegu had identical 12-28 record. But Daegu was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Seoul 87-71 on Sunday night. Seoul Thunders shot 23 for 32 from the free-throw line, while Daegu only scored seven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Daegu 39-27 including 25 on the defensive glass. Turkish power forward Kerem Kanter (208-1995, college: Xavier) nailed a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 16 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and naturalized American guard Justin Gutang (191-1997, college: Skyline JC) accounted for 20 points. The former international forward Ricardo Ratliffe (203-1989, college: Missouri) came up with 23 points and 7 rebounds and American forward Bennie Boatwright (208-1996, college: USC) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Daegu in the defeat. Four Daegu players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Seoul Thunders (13-28) moved-up to ninth place. Loser Daegu dropped to the bottom. Seoul Thunders' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Seoul Seoul Knights.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 8th ranked Mobis Phoebus' (15-26) home loss to seventh ranked Skygunners (18-23) in Ulsan 76-87 on Saturday. Sono SG made 23-of-29 free shots (79.3 percent) during the game. Sono SG outrebounded Mobis Phoebus 42-30 including 17 on the offensive glass. American power forward Nathan Knight (208-1997, college: William & Mary) nailed a double-double by scoring 28 points and 23 rebounds for the winning side and forward Jeong-Hyeon Lee (187-1999) accounted for 18 points and 9 assists. Four Skygunners players scored in double figures. Skygunners' coach Chang-Hwan Son used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Nigerian center John Egbunu (211-1994, college: Florida) came up with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international guard Moobeen Park (185-2001) added 7 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists respectively for Mobis Phoebus in the defeat. Sono SG maintains seventh place with 18-23 record. Loser Mobis Phoebus keep the eighth position with 26 games lost. Sono SG will meet league's leader LG Sakers in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mobis Phoebus will play against Wonju DB (#4) and hope to secure a win.
