KBL Round 28 (Regular Season): Daegu defeat LG Sakers

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Sakers (22-9) in Incheon on Monday night. Visitors were defeated by ninth ranked Daegu (11-20) 80-72. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Sakers. Strangely LG Sakers outrebounded Daegu 39-27 including 16 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Ricardo Ratliffe (203-1989, college: Missouri) who helped to win the game recording 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international guard Seong-Woo Jeong (178-1993) contributed with 20 points for the winners. Nigerian center Micheal Eric (211-1988, college: Temple) replied with 15 points and 4 assists for LG Sakers. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Daegu moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Sono SG. Defending champion LG Sakers still keep top position with nine games lost. Daegu is looking forward to face higher ranked Anyang (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. LG Sakers will play against Seoul Knights and are hoping to win this game.
An interesting game for Wonju DB (20-10) which hosted in Wonju their close opponent Anyang (20-11). Third ranked Wonju DB managed to get a 8-point victory 73-65. Worth to mention a great performance of Egyptian forward Essam Mostafa (206-1999, college: MTSU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and SangJae Kang who added 13 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side international guard Yuhyeon Moon (189-2004) responded with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Wonju DB have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Anyang at the other side keeps the third position with 11 games lost. Wonju DB will play against Sono SG (#7) in Daegu in the next round where they are favorite. Anyang will play at home against Daegu (#8) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Bottom-ranked Samsung Thunders managed to get a tenth victory, breaking the eight-game losing streak on Sunday night. This time they edged fourth-ranked Knights in Seoul 92-89. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Knights. The winners were led by Kerem Kanter who had that evening a double-double by scoring 24 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists. Even 38 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds by Jameel Warney did not help to save the game for Seoul Knights. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Seoul Thunders (10-20) moved-up to ninth place. Loser Knights keep the fourth position with 13 games lost. Seoul Thunders will meet bottom-ranked Mobis Phoebus (#10) in the next round. Seoul Knights will play against the league's leader LG Sakers (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.

Other games in round 28 were not that significant. Daegu beat KCC Egis on the road 89-75. Seoul Knights won against Suwon KT on its own court 94-84. Sono SG unfortunately lost to LG Sakers in Changwon 74-87. Suwon KT managed to beat Mobis Phoebus at home 74-58. Sono SG was defeated by KCC Egis on the opponent's court 96-90.



KCC Egis - Daegu 75-89

There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Daegu (11-20) beat higher ranked Egis (17-14) in Busan 89-75 on Saturday. Daegu made 17-of-19 free shots (89.5 percent) during the game. The winners were led by American forward Bennie Boatwright (208-1996, college: USC) who scored that evening 28 points and Filipino guard Samjosef Belangel (177-1999) supported him with 16 points and 5 assists. Daegu's coach used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 24 points and 18 rebounds by American forward Shawn Long (208-1993, college: Louisiana, agency: Pensack Sports) did not help to save the game for KCC Egis. Filipino forward William Navarro (199-1997) added 14 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Daegu moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Sono SG. KCC Egis lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with 14 games lost. Daegu will meet higher ranked Anyang (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. KCC Egis' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Busan to the arena Suwon KT.

Rather expected game when 6th ranked Sonicboom (16-16) lost to fourth ranked Knights (17-13) in Seoul 84-94 on Saturday. Seoul Knights dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Sonicboom's 30 and made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Seoul Knights looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The winners were led by American center Jameel Warney (203-1994, college: Stony Brook) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists and Filipino forward Arvin Tolentino (195-1995) supported him with 24 points. Even a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds by forward Doo-Won Lee (199-2000) did not help to save the game for Suwon KT. Guard Sungwook Kang (183-2004) added 19 points and 5 assists for lost side. Four Suwon KT players scored in double figures. The winners were led by the former international guard Junseok Yang (179-2001) who scored that evening 15 points and 9 assists and the former international forward Hongseok Yang (199-1997) supported him with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Sakers players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 23 points and 15 rebounds by American power forward Nathan Knight (208-1997, college: William & Mary) did not help to save the game for Sono SG. Filipino Kevin Quiambao (193-2001) added 14 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first position with 22-9 record. Loser Skygunners keeps the seventh place with 20 games lost. They share the position with Daegu. The winners were led by American center Isaiah Hicks (206-1994, college: UNC, agency: Slash Sports) who scored that evening 12 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import forward Derrick Williams (203-1991, college: Arizona) supported him with 16 points and 5 rebounds. Four Sonicboom players scored in double figures. Even 17 points and 8 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) by the former international guard Moobeen Park (185-2001) did not help to save the game for Mobis Phoebus. Nigerian center John Egbunu (211-1994, college: Florida) added 17 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Seoul Thunders shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 51.5 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The winners were led by Turkish power forward Kerem Kanter (208-1995, college: Xavier) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 24 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists and Kwan-hee Lee (-1988) supported him with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists.
