KBL Round 14 (Regular Season): Seoul Knights edge Suwon KT by two points

The most exciting game of round 14 in the KBL took place in Seoul. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Sonicboom (8-8) to sixth ranked Knights (8-8) 85-83 in the game for the fifth place. Seoul Knights looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American center Jameel Warney (203-1994, college: Stony Brook) who had a triple-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists. chipped in 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Derrick Williams (203-1991, college: Arizona) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Seoul Knights moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Suwon KT. Seoul Knights is looking forward to face Mobis Phoebus (#8) in Ulsan in the next round. Suwon KT will play on the road against the league's second-placed Anyang and is hoping to win this game.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Wonju DB (9-7) against ninth ranked Skygunners (6-10) on Tuesday night. Host Wonju DB was defeated by Skygunners in Wonju 93-82. American power forward Nathan Knight (208-1997, college: William & Mary) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Jeong-Hyeon Lee contributed with 23 points for the winners. American center Henry Ellenson (208-1997, college: Marquette) replied with 22 points and 8 rebounds for Wonju DB. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sono SG moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Mobis Phoebus. Wonju DB at the other side dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. Sono SG will play against higher ranked KCC Egis (#3) in Busan in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Wonju DB will play at home against Seoul Thunders and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Sakers have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 12-4 record. Loser Anyang keeps the second place with five games lost. LG Sakers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Anyang will play against Suwon KT and hope to secure a win.

Rest of the games of round 14 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Seoul Thunders defeated Sono SG in a road game 75-72. Bottom-ranked Daegu beat Mobis Phoebus at home 67-57. KCC Egis won against Daegu on the opponent's court 94-93.



Anyang - LG Sakers 70-78

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Anyang. First ranked Sakers faced second-ranked Anyang. Guests from Changwon (12-4) defeated host Anyang (10-5) 78-70. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Sakers have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 12-4 record. Sono SG - Seoul Thunders 72-75

Everything could happen in Daegu at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Samsung Thunders and 9th ranked Skygunners had identical 6-9 record. But Skygunners were not able to use a home court advantage and were edged by the opponent from Seoul 75-72 on Sunday night. Seoul Thunders made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Kwan-hee Lee scored 22 points and 9 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Canadian Andrew Nicholson (206-1989, college: St.Bonaventure) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Egyptian center Assem Marei (206-1992, college: MSU) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 assists and American power forward Nathan Knight (208-1997, college: William & Mary) scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Skygunners' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Seoul Thunders (7-9) moved-up to seventh place. Loser Skygunners dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. They share it with Mobis Phoebus. Seoul Thunders will meet higher ranked Wonju DB (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Sono SG will play against KCC Egis (#3) in Busan and hope to secure a win.

There was a small surprise in Incheon where tenth ranked Daegu (4-12) defeated 7th ranked Mobis Phoebus (6-10) 67-57 on Sunday. Daegu looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Jun-Yl Kim had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American power forward Nick Perkins (203-1996, college: Buffalo) chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Four Daegu players scored in double figures. American center Rayshaun Hammonds (206-1998, college: Georgia) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and Canadian Andrew Nicholson (206-1989, college: St.Bonaventure) scored 6 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Daegu maintains tenth position with 4-12 record. Mobis Phoebus lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Sono SG. Daegu will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Mobis Phoebus will play against Seoul Knights (#5) and hope to secure a win.

Very expected game in Incheon where 10th ranked Daegu (4-12) was edged by fourth ranked Egis (9-6) 94-93 on Tuesday. KCC Egis shot 24 for 32 from the free-throw line, while Daegu only scored seven points from the stripe. American forward Shawn Long (208-1993, college: Louisiana, agency: Pensack Sports) had a double-double by scoring 23 points and 15 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Hoon Heo chipped in 28 points and 7 assists during the contest. American power forward Nick Perkins (203-1996, college: Buffalo) responded with 30 points and 9 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) and Filipino guard Samjosef Belangel (177-1999) scored 16 points and 7 assists. Four Daegu players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. KCC Egis moved-up to third place. Loser Daegu stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. KCC Egis will meet at home Sono SG (#9) in the next round where they are favorite. Daegu will have a break next round.
