KBL Round 9 (Regular Season): Suwon KT beat Mobis Phoebus by three after a very close game

There were just 9 rounds played in Regular Season of KBL and we can clearly see which teams will fight for top positions and which will try to avoid bottom places. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 9 in the KBL took place in Ulsan. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 7th ranked Mobis Phoebus (4-7) to third ranked Sonicboom (7-3) 76-73 on Thursday evening. It was a good game for American center Isaiah Hicks (206-1994, college: UNC, agency: Slash Sports) who led his team to a victory with 22 points and 4 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Sonicboom's coach Se-Woong Park used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American center Rayshaun Hammonds (206-1998, college: Georgia) answered with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for Mobis Phoebus. Suwon KT moved-up to second place, which they share with LG Sakers. Mobis Phoebus lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the eighth position with seven games lost. Suwon KT is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Daegu (#10) in Incheon in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mobis Phoebus will play on the road against Seoul Thunders and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Sakers (7-3) against ninth ranked Skygunners (3-7) on Saturday night. Visiting Sakers were defeated by Skygunners in Daegu 74-64. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Sakers. stepped up and scored 20 points and 5 assists for the winners and Nathan Knight chipped in 15 points and 11 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Nigerian center Micheal Eric (211-1988, college: Temple) with 8 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sono SG maintains ninth place with 3-7 record. Defending champion LG Sakers keep the second position with three games lost. They share it with Suwon KT. Sono SG will play against league's leader Anyang on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. LG Sakers will play against Seoul Knights and hope to get back on the winning track.
The game in Seoul supposed to be also quite interesting. 4th placed Egis (6-4) played at the court of sixth ranked Samsung Thunders (5-5). Samsung Thunders smashed Egis 100-77 on Saturday. Andrew Nicholson nailed a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Shawn Long came up with 9 points and 13 rebounds for KCC Egis in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Samsung Thunders have a solid series of three victories in a row. Seoul Thunders maintains sixth place with 5-5 record. KCC Egis at the other side dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Seoul Thunders will meet at home Mobis Phoebus (#8) in the next round. KCC Egis will play against Seoul Knights and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 9: Wonju DB beat Daegu on the road 87-73. Seoul Knights won against Daegu on its own court 79-71. Mobis Phoebus unfortunately lost to Wonju DB in a road game 81-86.




Daegu - Wonju DB 73-87

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Wonju DB (7-4) beat bottom-ranked Daegu (1-10) in Incheon 87-73 on Wednesday. Wonju DB looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. American players dominated the game. Center Henry Ellenson (208-1997, college: Marquette) nailed a double-double by scoring 28 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side and guard Ethan Alvano (185-1996, college: CSUSM) accounted for 18 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Alvano is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Power forward Nick Perkins (203-1996, college: Buffalo) came up with 20 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Nathan Knight (208-1997, college: William & Mary) added 10 points and 9 assists respectively for Daegu in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Wonju DB have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place. Daegu at the other side stay at the bottom position with ten games lost. Wonju DB will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Daegu will play against Suwon KT (#3) in Busan and hope to win that game.

Rather expected game when 10th ranked Daegu (1-10) lost to seventh ranked Knights (4-6) in Seoul 71-79 on Friday. Seoul Knights made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. American power forward Darryl Monroe (202-1986, college: GMU) nailed a double-double by scoring 14 points, 18 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side and accounted for 13 points and 9 rebounds. Filipino guard Samjosef Belangel (177-1999) came up with 17 points and 5 assists and American power forward Nick Perkins (203-1996, college: Buffalo) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Daegu in the defeat. Five Seoul Knights and four Daegu players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Seoul Knights maintains seventh place with 4-6 record. Daegu at the other side stay at the bottom position with ten games lost.
