The biggest surprise of round 5 was guest Mobis Phoebus' (3-3) road victory over Seoul Knights (#8) 78-75 on Friday evening. Mobis Phoebus looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was who scored 22 points. American center Rayshaun Hammonds (206-1998, college: Georgia) chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. American center Jameel Warney (203-1994, college: Stony Brook) produced a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 15 rebounds and 4 assists for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Mobis Phoebus moved-up to sixth place. Seoul Knights lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with four games lost. They share it with Sono SG. Mobis Phoebus are looking forward to face higher ranked Anyang (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Seoul Knights will play against Wonju DB (#3) and are hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
Important game to mention about took place in Wonju. Second ranked Egis (4-1) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 4th placed Wonju DB (4-2) 86-84 in the game for the first place. It was a key game for the top position in the league. orchestrated the victory by scoring 23 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Shawn Long contributed with 14 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. American center Henry Ellenson (208-1997, college: Marquette) answered with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds for Wonju DB. Wonju DB's coach Sang-Bum Lee tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Egis have a solid series of four victories in a row. KCC Egis keep a position of league leader. Wonju DB at the other side dropped to the second place with two games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. KCC Egis will play against Sono SG (#8) in Daegu in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Wonju DB will play at home against Suwon KT (#5) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Sakers (4-2) against fourth ranked Anyang (4-2) on Wednesday night. Host Sakers were defeated by Anyang in a tough game in Changwon 62-70. Johnny OBryant III stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Carl Tamayo responded with 19 points. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Anyang moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated LG Sakers. Anyang will meet at home Mobis Phoebus (#6) in the next round. LG Sakers will play against Daegu (#10) and hope to secure a win.
Other games of round 5 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Sono SG was defeated by Wonju DB in a road game 83-76. LG Sakers beat Seoul Thunders at home 75-64. Winless Daegu lost to Suwon KT on the opponent's court 65-68.
