KBL Round 47 (Regular Season): Seoul Knights lose to Anyang

Top ranked Knights (40-12) recorded its twelfth loss on the court of sixth ranked Anyang on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Anyang 81-76. The best player for the winners was American power forward Johnny OBryant III (207-1993, college: LSU, agency: Slash Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 17 rebounds. Filipino Javier Gomez De Liano (195-1998) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds. The former international forward Youngjun An (195-1995) produced 19 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Anyang maintains sixth place with 24-29 record. Seoul Knights at the other side still keep top position with 12 games lost. Anyang are looking forward to face Wonju DB (#7) on the road in the next round. Seoul Knights' supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Seoul Seoul Thunders.
Very important is a road loss of third ranked Sonicboom (32-21) against fifth ranked KoGas (28-25) on Saturday night. Visiting Sonicboom was defeated by KoGas in a tough game in Inchon 74-83. Canadian Andrew Nicholson (206-1989, college: St.Bonaventure) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 7 rebounds. Youssou Ndoye contributed with 9 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Hoon Heo (181-1995) answered with 22 points and 5 rebounds for Suwon KT. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. KoGas have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 28-25 record. Suwon KT at the other side keeps the third position with 21 games lost. KoGas will play against higher ranked Mobis Phoebus (#4) in Ulsan in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Suwon KT will play at home against KCC Egis and hopes to get back on the winning track.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Ulsan. Second ranked Sakers faced 4th placed Mobis Phoebus. Guests from Changwon (34-19) defeated host Mobis Phoebus (31-21) 83-76. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Mobis Phoebus. It was a great evening for Assem Marei who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 21 rebounds. Gaige Prim responded with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Sakers have a solid series of three victories in a row. LG Sakers maintains second place with 34-19 record having five points less than leader Seoul Knights. Loser Mobis Phoebus keep the fourth position with 21 games lost. LG Sakers will meet Sono SG (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mobis Phoebus will play against KoGas (#5) in Inchon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 47 Wonju DB was defeated by Sono SG in Daegu 86-70. KCC Egis were beaten by Seoul Thunders at home 83-91.



Sono SG - Wonju DB 86-70

There was a minor upset in Daegu where 7th ranked Wonju DB (22-30) was defeated by ninth ranked Skygunners (17-35) 86-70 on Friday. Sono SG dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Wonju DB's 30. They outrebounded Wonju DB 43-30 including a 18-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Sono SG looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American center Alan Williams (203-1993, college: UCSB) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists. Filipino Kevin Quiambao (193-2001) helped adding 17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Five Skygunners players scored in double figures. American-Lebanese Omari Spellman (206-1997, college: Villanova) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists and American guard Ethan Alvano (185-1996, college: CSUSM) scored 20 points, 6 assists and 5 steals. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Sono SG maintains ninth place with 17-35 record. Defending champion Wonju DB keeps the seventh position with 30 games lost. Sono SG will meet at home league's second-placed LG Sakers in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Wonju DB will play against Anyang (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There was a small surprise in Jeonju where tenth ranked Samsung Thunders (16-36) defeated 8th ranked Egis (18-34) 91-83 on Friday. Seoul Thunders looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Glenn Robinson III (198-1994, college: Michigan) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international forward Junghyun Lee (191-1987) helped adding 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. American power forward Donovan Smith (207-1993, college: Quinnipiac) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and Haitian center Cady Lalanne (208-1992, college: UMass) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Seoul Thunders maintains tenth place with 16-36 record. Loser Egis keep the eighth position with 34 games lost.
