THE Meralco Bolts suffered a heartbreaking 81-80 home loss to the Seoul SK Knights at the PhilSports Arena on Wednesday night - a big blow to their bid for a berth in the Final Four of the EASL Home and Away Season. Import Warney Jameel (203-C-1994, college: Stony Brook) led the way for the Knights with 31 points, seven rebounds and six assists while Youngjun An (195-F-1995) added 19 points on 5-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc as the visiting team improved to 2-2 (win-loss). The Knights' Filipino import, Gomez De Liano Juan (184-G-1999), had four points and one assist in over four minutes of play, sitting out the entire second half. The Bolts played catch-up for most of the game but got one final chance to steal the win behind a late fightback. But they let it slip away as import Prince Ibeh (208-C-1994, college: Texas) failed to collar a Christopher Banchero (186-PG-1990, college: Seattle Pacific) pass, leading to a turnover. Zach Lofton (193-G-1993, college: NM State, agency: Slash Sports) topscored with 32 points for the Bolts, who, at 1-3 (win-loss), need to sweep their last two games and hope the other teams in the group fade to have a shot at making the playoff round. Meralco next hosts group leader New Taipei Kings on January 3, also at the PhilSports Arena.
