KBL Round 13: LG Sakers edge Goyang by one point

The most exciting game of round 13 in the KBL took place in Daegu. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 3rd placed Goyang (9-7) to second ranked LG Sakers (12-8) 85-84 on Sunday evening. LG Sakers dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Goyang's 28. American forward Dante Cunningham (203-1987, college: Villanova) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. The former international point guard Jae-Do Lee (180-1991) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds. LG Sakers' coach Sung-Won Cho used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American power forward Dedric Lawson (206-1997, college: Kansas) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. LG Sakers maintains second place with 12-8 record having just two points less than leader Anyang. Goyang at the other side dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. LG Sakers are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Suwon KT (#10) in Busan in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Goyang will play on the road against Mobis Phoebus (#3) in Ulsan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Seoul: Seoul Knights (#5) and Seoul Thunders (#6). Seoul Thunders were defeated at home 78-83 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Jameel Warney (203-1994, college: Stony Brook) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!) and 15 rebounds. Joon-Young Choi contributed with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. American forward Emanuel Terry (206-1996, college: LMU) answered with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 12 rebounds for Seoul Thunders. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Seoul Knights have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains fifth place with 9-10 record. Seoul Thunders lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 12 games lost. Seoul Knights will play against KCC Egis (#9) in Jeonju in the next round. Seoul Thunders will play on the road against the league's leader Anyang and hope to get back on the winning track.
Leader Anyang delivered the fifteenth victory on Sunday night. This time they beat 6th ranked Seoul Thunders (8-12) 77-73. Omari Spellman stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Anyang's coach Seung-Ki Kim allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side Emanuel Terry responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 18 rebounds. Anyang maintains first place with 15-4 record. Seoul Thunders lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 12 games lost. Anyang will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Seoul Thunders will play again against the league's leader Anyang (#1) and hope to secure a win.

Other games of round 13 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:

Leader Anyang delivered the fifteenth victory on Sunday night. This time they beat 6th ranked Seoul Thunders (8-12) 77-73. Anyang made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. American Omari Spellman (207-1997, college: Villanova) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and the former international center Sek-Eun Oh (200-1987) chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds. Anyang's coach Seung-Ki Kim allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side American forward Emanuel Terry (206-1996, college: LMU) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 18 rebounds and forward Min-Gug Jang (199-1989) scored 16 points. Suwon KT - KoGas 63-71

Everything could happen in Busan at the game between two tied teams. Both seventh ranked KoGas and 9th ranked Suwon KT had identical 6-10 record. But Suwon KT was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Inchon 71-63 on Sunday night. KoGas dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Suwon KT's 22. American forward Murphy Holloway (201-1990, college: Ole Miss, agency: Octagon Europe) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and the former international forward Dae-Heon Lee (198-1992) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four KoGas players scored in double figures. KoGas' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international forward Hongseok Yang (199-1997) responded with 14 points and 7 rebounds and Cameroonian center Landry Nnoko (208-1994, college: Clemson) scored 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. KoGas have a solid series of four victories in a row. Despite that victory KoGas went down to eighth position due to points difference. Suwon KT lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom place with 11 games lost. They share the position with KCC Egis. KoGas will meet at home higher ranked Wonju DB (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Suwon KT will play against the league's second-placed LG Sakers having rather not much hope for a victory.

American forward Gaige Prim (203-1999, college: Missouri St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and guard Seong-Jin Shin (190-1999) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Lennard Freeman (203-1995, college: NC State) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds and guard Ethan Albano (185-1996) scored 14 points and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Mobis Phoebus moved-up to third place. Loser Wonju DB keeps the seventh position with nine games lost. Mobis Phoebus will meet at home Goyang (#4) in the next round. Wonju DB will play against KoGas in Inchon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Egyptian center Assem Marei (206-1992, college: MSU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners and naturalized American guard Justin Gutang (191-1997, college: Skyline JC) chipped in 13 points and 4 assists. At the losing side American forward Murphy Holloway (201-1990, college: Ole Miss, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and Senegalese center Youssou Ndoye (213-1991, college: St.Bonaventure) scored 12 points and 7 rebounds. Four KoGas players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
