Qatar edge Saudi Arabia in Gulf Championship semifinal- September 7, 2024Qatar came alive in the fourth quarter of their game against Saudi Arabia to pull away for a 76-63 victory in yesterday’s other semi-final. They outscored Saudi 23-11 in the period to turn a slim 53-52 advantage after three to the 13-point triumph. Moustapha Fouad scored from beyond the arc to put the game out of reach at 72-58 with a minute-and-a-half remaining. They had earlier taken full control of the contest with a game-changing 11-0 run midway through the fourth, capped by an Abdulrahman Saad (185-G/F-1996) triple, that made it 67-55. Mike Lewis II (186-G-1998, college: Duquesne) paced the Qataris with 16 points, while Fouda added 14 off the bench. Tyler Harris (208-C-1993, college: Auburn) finished with 12. For Saudi, Mathna Almarwani (186-SG-1992) had a game-high 20 points but it wasn’t enough to lead his team to the win. Mohammed Alsuwailem (211-C-1998) chipped in with 14.
