Malaysia - Philippines 56:64
Philippines registered the first win at the 2011 SEA Games. They toppled defending champions Malaysia in the opener. Merenciana Arayi (85) nailed 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to pace the winners.
Philippines stunned their opponents in the opening quarter. They went on a 21:6 run to take a comfortable lead. Malaysia however stopped the bleeding in the second term. They notched 22 points in the next quarter to narrow the gap to 8 points at halftime 28:36. Philippines regained control after the big break. They held their opponents to just 10 points in the quarter and grabbed a 13-point lead with one quarter to go. Philippines never allowed Malaysia closer than 7 points in the final period and celebrated a well-deserved win at the end. Joan Grajales (162-G-79) and Chnovin Borja (85) notched 11 points each for Philippines. Kalaimathi Rajintiran (185-C-90) responded with 12 points for Malaysia. Suik May Kew (172-F-82) had 11 points in the loss.

Indonesia - Myanmar 78:86
Myanmar celebrated their first ever international win tonight. They prevailed against hosting Indonesia at the start of 2011 SEA Games basketball tournament. Wine Wine stepped up with 32 points to lead an impressive effort from the winners.
It was a tough battle right from the start. Myanmar grabbed a 24:21 lead after ten minutes of action. Indonesia however woke up in the second term. They add aggressiveness to their defence holding the visitors to 12 points. Indonesia thus posted a 42:36 halftime lead. But Myanmar struck back in the third term. They erupted for 30 points in the period to jump to an 11-point advantage with one quarter remaining. Indonesia tried hard to save the game in the fourth frame however Than Than and Ms. Susie nailed four free throws in the dying seconds to seal the victory for Myanmar. Ms. Susie notched 19 points, while Than Than contributed 16 points in the win. Jacklien Ibo (175-F-90) responded with 24 points for Indonesia. Yunita Sugianto (167-PG-87) had 9 points in defeat.
