Malaysia - Philippines 74:56

Malaysian National team gained their second straight victory at the SEA Games in Thailand. They are now tied with the hosts at 2-0 record and will clash in the trophy decider tomorrow. Filipino team meanwhile suffered their second loss and finished the competition with 1-2 record. Malaysia got to a flying start as they played tight defense and forced their opponents to numerous turnovers. Philippines scored only 10 points in the starting frame and Malaysia grabbed a 19:10 lead. The gap grew deeper in the second stanza as Suik May Kew (172-F-82) and Beng Fong Goh (164-G-82) paced Malaysia shooting accurately from the field. Malaysia built a comfortable 38:23 buffer at the interval. But Filipino refused to surrender that early as they tried to match the tempo in the third quarter and succeeded outscoring their counterparts 16:14. But Malaysia quickly regained control in the final period and straight baskets from Siao Foong Chow (171-F/C-76) iced Filipino comeback effort. She finished with game-high 16 points. Beng Fong Goh had 14 points, while Suik May Kew provided 13 points and 7 assists for the winners. Joan Grajales (162-G-79) led Philippines with 13 points and 6 boards. They also shot miserable 26% from the field, while Malaysia answered with 45% accuracy.
