John Murry gets MVP of the Week award for Qatari Cup

American John Murry (194-G-1995) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's second-best Al Wakrah and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 2.
The 28-year old guard had the game-high 29 points adding nine rebounds and four assists for Al Wakrah in his team's victory, helping them to crush Al Gharafa (#4, 1-2) with 21-point margin 93-72. Al Wakrah was forced-out from the top positions in Qatari Cup. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this season. Al Wakrah will need more victories to improve their 3-1 record. In the team's last game Murry had a remarkable five three-pointers out of 10 attempts. He turned to be Al Wakrah's top player in his first season with the team. Austin Peay State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Murry is in league's top in points (4th best: 25.0ppg), rebounds (8th best: 9.0rpg), assists (5th best: 4.8apg) and averages solid 53.6% FGP. Worth to mention Murry played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was young American center Tyrone Nash (203-C-1988) of league's best team Al Ahli Sports Club Doha. Nash impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds. It was enough for Al Ahli to edge Qatar Club (1-1) by 4 points 94-90. His team has extremely good start of the season. They won both games so far. However the season is at the beginning, so everything can happen. They still may lose their high position in the standings. Nash is a newcomer at Al Ahli and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders.

The third best performed player last round was another Al Wakrah's star - American Aaron Mitchell (188-G-1989). Mitchell scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds (!!!). He was another key player of Al Wakrah, helping his team with a 93-72 easy win against #4 ranked Al Gharafa in a game of the week. Al Wakrah needs these victories very badly if they think about taking over top position in Group 1. Their record at this point is 3 victories and 1 lost game. Mitchell has a great season in Qatar. After only 4 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 21.5ppg (7th best) and rebounds with 11.3rpg (4th best).
