Cup Round 3 (Regular Season): Al Wakrah lose to Al Arabi

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The biggest surprise of round 3 in Cup took place in Doha where host Al Arabi (3-0) beat Al Wakrah (3-1) 84-71 on Tuesday evening. Al Arabi made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Strangely Al Wakrah outrebounded Al Arabi 45-33 including 31 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American guard Walter Lemon Jr. (191-1992, college: Bradley) who scored 32 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. The former international center Mohamed Hussein (203-1996) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Aaron Mitchell (188-1989, college: Longwood) who recorded a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds. Al Wakrah will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest. Al Arabi will try to continue on its current victory against Al Gharafa. It will be extra interesting game as Al Gharafa is their local rival from Doha.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Doha: Al Arabi (#2) and Al Shamal (#4). Al Shamal was crushed at home by 18 points 70-88 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It was a good game for American guard Walter Lemon Jr. (191-1992, college: Bradley) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists. Mustafa Ali contributed with 22 points for the winners. American center Tyler Harris (208-1993, college: Auburn, agency: AG Sports Solutions) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds for Al Shamal. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Al Arabi's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Gharafa.
Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Doha: Al Shamal (#4) and Al Gharafa (#3). Al Gharafa was defeated at home 71-86 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It was a great evening for Tyler Harris who led his team to a victory scoring 29 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Randy Culpepper with 24 points and 4 assists. Al Shamal will meet Al Khor (#5) on the road in the next round. Al Gharafa's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Arabi.

In the last game of round 3 winless Al Khor was defeated by Al Wakrah in a road game 77-73.

American center Tyler Harris (208-1993, college: Auburn, agency: AG Sports Solutions) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and the former international forward Sammy Monroe (198-1985, college: Newberry) added 8 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Al Shamal. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Al Arabi's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Gharafa.

Al Wakrah - Al Khor 77-73

There was no surprise when Al Khor (0-3) was defeated on the road by Al Wakrah (3-1) 77-73 on Saturday. Al Wakrah made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for American guard John Murry (194-1995, college: Austin Peay) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. His fellow American import guard Aaron Mitchell (188-1989, college: Longwood) helped adding 18 points and 7 rebounds. Worth to mention Murry played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Four Al Wakrah players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Tyree Crump (185-1997, college: Georgia, agency: BIG) with 36 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and Finnish power forward Mubashar Ali (213, college: FMU) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds. Al Wakrah will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Al Khor will play against Al Shamal (#3) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Al Gharafa was defeated at home 71-86 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Al Shamal looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a great evening for American center Tyler Harris (208-1993, college: Auburn, agency: AG Sports Solutions) who led his team to a victory scoring 29 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Terry Larrier (203-1995, college: UConn) helped adding 27 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Harris attended previously one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on her way to pro basketball. The best for the losing side was American point guard Randy Culpepper (183-1989, college: UTEP, agency: Octagon Europe) with 24 points and 4 assists and Senegalese center Adama Diakhite (205-1997) scored 21 points and 8 rebounds. Four Al Gharafa players scored in double figures. Al Shamal will meet Al Khor (#5) on the road in the next round.
