Antwaine Wiggins gets MVP of the Week award for Qatari D1- November 30, 2021
The 33-year old forward had a double-double of 29 points and thirteen rebounds, while his team edged out Al Sadd (2-1) 82-78. Al Ahli is placed at 3rd position in Qatari D1. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this season. Al Ahli will need more victories to improve their 2-1 record. Wiggins turned to be Al Ahli's top player in his first season with the team. College of Charleston graduate has very impressive stats this year. Wiggins is in league's top in points (8th best: 23.5ppg), rebounds (8th best: 11.0rpg) and averages solid 1.8bpg,2.8spg and 65.5% FGP. The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was 36-year old American forward Sammy Monroe (198-F-85) of Al Arabi. Monroe impressed basketball fans with a triple-double of 14 points, 17 rebounds and 15 assists. Of course he led Al Arabi to another comfortable win outscoring Al Rayyan (#8, 0-4) 107-87. This victory allowed Al Arabi to move up to 6th position in the standings. His team lost some distance to top teams. But 2-2 record is not bad and everything may still change. Monroe is well-known by Al Arabi fans and he already established his position as one of team's most reliable players. Newberry College alumni Monroe played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. The third best performed player last round was another Al Arabi's star - American Nick West (210-F-94). West showcased his all-around game by recording 24 points, seventeen rebounds (!!!) and four assists in the last round. He was another key player of Al Arabi, helping his team with a 107-87 easy win against Al Rayyan (#8, 0-4). Al Arabi needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 2 victories and 2 lost games. West has a great season in Qatar. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 13.4rpg (4th best).
