Al Arabi Club Doha (D1) signed experienced 34-year old American forward Billy McShepard (208cm-87, college: Valdosta State, agency: Blacktop Management) for upcoming 2021-22 season. McShepard joins another USA player Nick West who is already in the roster.
He played last season at M.Ashdod in Israeli National League. In 18 games he had very impressive stats: 16.9ppg, 10.7rpg, 1.6apg, 1.4spg and 1.1bpg. He helped them to end the regular season as a second best team in the league. 2020-21 was a great season as he was named to Eurobasket.com All-Israeli National League 2nd Team.
The previous (19-20) season he played at Elitzur Yavne (also in National League) where in 22 games he recorded also remarkable stats: 19.4ppg, 11.7rpg (#4 in the league), 1.8apg, 1.3spg and 1.9bpg. 2019-20 was a great season as he was named to Eurobasket.com All-Israeli National League Honorable Mention and League Player of the Week (3 times).
In 2011 he was drafted by Sioux Falls Skyforce (D-League) in fourth round (13th overall).
He attended Valdosta State (NCAA Div.II) and it will be his eleventh (!!!) season in pro basketball.
McShepard is quite experienced player. He has played in eight different countries on four different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America and of course North America). McShepard has played previously professionally also in Argentina (San Lorenzo), Austria (Gmunden Swans), Germany (Speyer), Japan (Yamagata), Lebanon, Uruguay and NBA G League (Sioux Falls S. and Texas L.) and Israel (Ramat Hasharon, Elitzur Ironi Ashkelon and Ironi Nes Ziona).
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others his team won Israeli Leumit Cup in 2017. He was also voted Eurobasket.com All-Israeli National League Player of the Year and Eurobasket.com All-Israeli National League Import Player of the Year back in 2016.
McShepard could be described: Played mostly 4-5 at the college level, but is ideally suited to play the 3-4 in the international game. Very good athlete who has a great upside. Athleticism, 7-0 wingspan, inside/outside offensive skills and superior ball handling and shooting skills for his size present an interesting package.
