Al Arabi Club Doha (D1) agreed terms with experienced 35-year old American (has also Iraqi passport) forward Sammy Monroe (198-85, college: Newberry). He played last season at Al Gharafa. In 7 D1 games in Qatar he had very impressive stats: 16.9ppg, 7.0rpg, 6.7apg and 3.6spg. Monroe helped them to make it to the final. He also played for Sporting (Superleague) in Egyptian league where in 7 games he recorded also remarkable stats: 16.9ppg, 7.0rpg and 6.6apg.
In 2007 Monroe was drafted by Sioux Falls Skyforce (D-League) in ninth round (118th overall).
He attended Newberry College (NCAA Div.II) and it will be his 14th (!!!) season in pro basketball.
He played at the Arab Club Championships Semifinals two years ago.
Monroe is quite experienced player. He has played in ten different countries on five different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America, Africa and of course North America). Monroe has played previously professionally in Lebanon (Homentmen and Al Moutahed), Malaysia, Mexico (Halcones UV Xalapa, Mineros de Caborca and Potros), Philippines, Saudi Arabia (Al Nasr), Spain (Tenerife), other UAE team, Uruguay (Malvin), United Arab Emirates (Shabab Al Ahli) and PBL (Rochester RazorSharks).
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Monroe was voted Asia-Basket.com Qatar D1 All-Imports Team between 2017 and 2018.
He is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league on the market.
Monroe could be described: A big guard with skills who can also play the small forward position. He is a smooth and gifted scorer who creates well off the dribble and can knock down the perimeter shot. He has experience playing in Mexico and was one of the top scorers in the Philippines in 2010. During the ESL he showed his athleticism and he creative skills as a scorer either getting to the basket or knocking down jump shots.
