D1 Round 19: Al Arabi edge Al Shamal by three points

There are only two more rounds left in the Regular Season in D1. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most exciting game of round 19 in the D1 took place in Doha. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of their biggest opponent Al Shamal (12-5) to first ranked Al Arabi (13-2) 75-72 in the game for the first place. Bosnian-Serbian power forward Miroslav Todic (205-85) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. Algerian forward Mohamed Harath (198-90) chipped in 17 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. American Lenny Daniel (203-87, college: CSUN) produced 24 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Al Arabi have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 13-2 record. Defending champion Al Shamal keeps the second position with five games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Important game to mention about took place in Doha. Seventh ranked Qatar Sports Club (5-11) saved a 3-point derby victory on the road edging 6th ranked Al Ahli (6-9) 86-83 on Sunday evening. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Jonathan Lee (188-90, college: Northeastern) who helped to win the game recording a triple-double by scoring 29 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists (made all of his twelve free throws !!!). Kevin Bracy-Davis contributed with 26 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Jeff Newberry (188-92, college: Oklahoma St.) answered with a triple-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for Al Ahli. Qatar Sports Club maintains seventh place with 5-11 record. Al Ahli lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the sixth position with nine games lost. Qatar Sports Club will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Al Ahli's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Sadd.

Al Rayyan - Al Khor 85-78

The game with biggest result difference took place in Doha. Local Al Rayyan (10-6) beat 9th ranked Al Khor (2-15) 85-78 on Friday night. Al Rayyan made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a quality performance of the former international forward Tanguy Ngombo (197-84) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Tony Farmer (201-94, college: Lee JC) helped adding 20 points and 11 rebounds. Four Al Rayyan players scored in double figures. At the losing side American swingman Malcolm Bernard (198-94, college: Xavier) responded with a triple-double by scoring 24 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists and the other American import center Khobi Williamson (201-92, college: Hampden-Sydney) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds. Al Rayyan moved-up to fourth place. Al Khor at the other side stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Important game to mention about took place in Doha. Seventh ranked Qatar Sports Club (5-11) saved a 3-point derby victory on the road edging 6th ranked Al Ahli (6-9) 86-83 on Sunday evening. Qatar Sports Club made 23-of-27 charity shots (85.2 percent) during the game, while Al Ahli only scored seven points from the stripe. They outrebounded Al Ahli 47-33 including 36 on the defensive glass. Qatar Sports Club brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Jonathan Lee (188-90, college: Northeastern) who helped to win the game recording a triple-double by scoring 29 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists (made all of his twelve free throws !!!).
