D1 Round 7: Al Wakrah keeps a leadership position

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Al Wakrah as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Al Wakrah defeated 4th placed Qatar Sports Club at home 95-77. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Al Wakrah dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Qatar Sports Club's 34. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a great evening for forward Tevin Glass (206-94, college: ETSU) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Musa Abdul-Aleem (196-88, college: Troy) helped adding 31 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side guard Kevin Bracy-Davis (201-95, college: Davis & Elkins) responded with a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Qatar Sports Club at the other side dropped to the sixth place with three games lost. Qatar Sports Club will play next round against strong Al Shamal trying to get back on the winning streak. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena of Al Shamal. Al Wakrah will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
Leading Al Arabi (4-2) recorded its second loss in Doha. Hosts were edged by seventh ranked Al Gharafa (3-3) 75-72. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Tre Bussey (190-91, college: Georgia South) who led the winners and scored 31 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Abdulrahman Saad accounted for 15 points and 6 assists. American-Iraqi point guard Kevin Galloway (200-88, college: Texas Southern) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists for Al Arabi in the defeat. Al Gharafa have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain seventh place with 3-3 record. Al Arabi at the other side dropped to the second position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Al Gharafa will play against Al Khor (#8) at home in the next round. Al Arabi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Sadd.

Worth to mention a great performance of Mikhail Berishvili who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Al Sadd at the other side still closes the standings with six games lost. Al Shamal's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Qatar Sports Club.



Al Khor - Al Rayyan 72-94

Bottom-ranked Al Khor (0-6) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their sixth consecutive match to sixth ranked Al Rayyan (4-2) 94-72 on Saturday evening. Al Rayyan shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 56.0 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Americans were the main players on the court also this time. Forward Tony Farmer (201-94, college: Lee JC) fired 36 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds for the winners. Guard Eric Lockett (196, college: NC State) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 assists. Lockett is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Al Rayyan players scored in double figures. Center Khobi Williamson (201-92, college: Hampden-Sydney) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds and guard Madarious Gibbs (185-93, college: Texas Southern) added 17 points and 13 assists respectively for lost side.
