Al Sadd - Al Arabi 60-71

Al Arabi upset Al Sadd in the opener. Al Arabi made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Al Arabi made 9 blocks. The former international swingman Khalid Abdi (198-87) stepped up and scored 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Senegalese center Oumar Seck (208-88) chipped in 10 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks. Four Al Arabi players scored in double figures. At the losing side American swingman Devin Green (201-82, college: Hampton) responded with 26 points and 5 assists and Bosnian-Serbian power forward Miroslav Todic (205-85) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 18 rebounds. Al Sadd's coach Manos Manouselis rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help.

Al Shamal - Qatar Club 85-76

Al Shamal outscored Qatar Club for the opening win in the series. Al Shamal outrebounded Qatar Sports Club 46-29 including 32 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Algerian forward Mohamed Harath (198-90) nailed a double-double by scoring 15 points and 17 rebounds for the winning side and Georgian point guard Giorgi Tsintsadze (192-86) accounted for 20 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international center Mohd-Yousuf Mohmmed (204-82) came up with 23 points and 9 rebounds and American forward Aaron Rountree-III (203-93, college: Iona) added 25 points and 4 assists respectively for Qatar Sports Club in the defeat. Five Al Shamal and four Qatar Sports Club players scored in double figures.

MARQUIS WEDDLE Al Gharafa Doha (D1) agreed terms with 30-year old American guard Marquis Weddle (185-88, college: West Virginia Wesleyan). Al Wakrah - Al Arabi 71:75 Al Arabi clinch Cup title in Ar-Rayyan as they edged Al Wakrah 75-71. The latter opened the game stronger and took a 19-15 early lead. Al Arabi however replied with an 18-12 rally to take a narrow halftime advantage. Moreover they posted a decisive 24-16 surge in the third period to win the game.
