Russell Byrd
26-year old guard Russell Byrd (201-G-92) put on an amazing game in the last round for league's best team Al Sadd and receives a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 17.
He had the game-high 37 points adding six rebounds and four assists for Al Sadd in his team's victory, helping them to crush Al Shamal (12-4) with 17-point margin 95-78. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Al Sadd to take over top position in the Qatari league. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost a few games earlier this season. Al Sadd has a very solid 12-4 record, but they cannot be too comfortable about keeping top position. In the team's last game Byrd had a remarkable 88.9% from 2-point range and got four three-pointers out of 8 attempts. He just recently signed at Al Sadd, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Russell Byrd averages just after three games 11.0ppg and 6.0rpg.

Second best performed player last round was Kevin Galloway (200-PG-88) of Al Arabi. He is American-Iraqi guard in his first season at Al Arabi. In the last game Galloway recorded impressive double-double of 26 points and 13 assists. Of course he led Al Arabi to another comfortable win outscoring the lower-ranked Al Khor (#9, 2-14) 96-60. Al Arabi's 4th position in the standings has not changed. His team's 10-6 record is not bad at all. Galloway is one of the most experienced players at Al Arabi and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third place about best performers goes to center Mame Souleye (206-C-87) of Al Wakrah (#5). Souleye scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Despite Souleye's great performance Al Wakrah lost 89-94 to the lower-ranked Al Rayyan (#8, 3-13). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. The last thing Al Wakrah needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 9 victories and 7 lost games. Souleye has a very solid season. In 8 games in Qatar he scored 12.4ppg. Mame Souleye has also Qatari passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Miroslav Todic (205-F/C-85) of Al Sadd - 19 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Akeem Wright (200-F/G-84) of Al Rayyan - 17 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists
6. Dominic James (180-PG-86) of Al Sadd - 26 points, 2 rebounds and 7 assists
7. Xavier Cannefax (188-G-89) of Al Rayyan - 31 points and 7 rebounds
8. Lenny Daniel (203-PF-87) of Al Rayyan - 19 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Joshua Caldwell (203-F/C-91) of Al Wakrah - 22 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists
10. Julius Coles (193-SG-89) of Al Ahli - 10 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
