Nick Stover
Nick Stover (198-F-93, college: S.Alabama) almost single-handedly swept Al Arabi into the semi-finals of the Emir Cup basketball tournament, his 42-point effort proving too much for Al Khor at the Al Gharafa Sports Club yesterday. Such was Nick Stover's domination that the second-best scorer in the Al Arabi side was Khalid Suliman Abdi with 16, while none of the others managed double figures in their 80-63 victory. Of his 42 points, 15 came from the three-point mark as Al Arabi dominated throughout, never allowing their rivals to mount a challenge. Al Arabi led 19-9 after the first 10 minutes and 40-29 at the end of the second. At one point they held a 25-point lead (80-25), leaving Al Khor with a mountain to climb. For Al Khor, Dominique Lacy (201-F-89, college: NC-Wilmington) was the top scorer with 23, while Khobi Williamson (201-C-92, college: Hampden-Sydney) had 13.
In another quarter-final match, Al Wakrah eased past Al Sadd 72-63 with Demarius Bolds (193-G-84, college: Missouri Western)' 29 points the top score for the winners. Despite the margin of victory being only nine points, it was Al Wakrah who were ahead throughout the match. Al Wakrah led 28-8 after the first quarter, and although Al Sadd put up a good fight in the second, scoring 25 points, they couldn't sustain the momentum. Bolds scored 12 points from the three-point mark, and he was well supported by Adamu Saaka and Erfan Ali Saeed who contributed 14 and 11, respectively. For Al Sadd, Darrius Oldham top scored with 20, while Nasser Khalifa al-Rayes had 16 and Babacar Dieng 13.
