Vernon
Macklin
Al Jaysh Army SC Doha (D1) added to their roster 28-year old American power forward Vernon Macklin (208-104kg-86, college: Florida). He already started the season at New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA. The last season Macklin played at Liaoning Hunters (CBA) in Chinese league. In 7 games he recorded 12.9ppg and 5.7rpg.
The previous (2013) summer he was tested by Barangay Ginebra (PBA) in Filipino league. The most of previous (12-13) season Macklin spent at Rio Grande Valley Vipers in D-League. In 22 games he averaged 14.6ppg, 5.6rpg and 1.0apg in 2012-13 season. He also spent pre-season at Royal Hali (TBL) in Turkish league earlier that year. In 5 games he averaged 6.6ppg, 3.2rpg and 1.0spg in 2012-13 season.
In 2011-12 season Macklin played at the Pistons in NBA. But in 22 games he averaged just 1.9ppg and 1.4rpg in 2011-12 season.
Three years ago he was drafted by Detroit Pistons (NBA) in second round (52nd overall). Macklin attended University of Florida and it will be his fourth season in pro basketball.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others his team made it to the PBA Commissioner's Cup final in 2013. Macklin was also voted Asia-Basket.com All-PBA Commissioner's Cup 2nd Team in 2013.
He has played also professionally in D-League (Fort Wayne Mad Ants).
The scouts decsribe him following way: (by Tyler Ingle for NBADraft.net in 2011)
He's a solid athlete whose explosiveness allows him to do damage around the hoop... Moves well on both sides of the ball... Offensively, his biggest strength is his over the left shoulder baby hook when he establishes deep positioning on the interior. His glaring weakness is his non-existent midrange game ... Facing the basket is not in his repertoire, nor does it look to be in his near future ...One-dimensional offensively, without an array of post moves or an outside game
