American Center Jaylen Johnson (206-C-1996, agency: Octagon Europe) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for top-ranked Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 8.
The 29-year old player had a double-double of 35 points and 21 rebounds, while his team beat FiberXers (#12, 1-5) 120-111. It allowed Painters to consolidate first place in the Filipino PBA. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. The season is still on an early stage, but Rain or Shine already had a very good start winning all 6 without losing a single one. In the team's last game Johnson had a remarkable 58.3% from 2-point range and got five three-pointers out of 10 attempts. He turned to be Painters's top player in his first season with the team. Former University of Louisville star has very solid stats this year. Johnson is in league's top in points (5th best: 28.2ppg), rebounds (9th best: 13.6rpg) and averages impressive 1.8bpg,57.1% FGP and 51.3% from behind 3-point line.

The second best player in last round's games was young American Robert Upshaw (213-C-1994) of Blackwater Bossing. Upshaw had a very good evening with a double-double of 25 points and 11 rebounds. Bad luck as Bossing was edged by slightly higher-ranked Titan UGR (#9, 2-3) 102-98. The game was between two teams which are definitely not main contenders for the title. Blackwater dropped in the standings to 11th position. 4 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory Bossing managed to get this year. Upshaw is one of the most experienced players at Blackwater and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 28.0ppg (#6). His other stats are also decent: 11.3rpg and 3.7apg.

Third on the list of top players last round was American forward Justin Brownlee (197-F-1988) of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings (#4). Brownlee showcased his all-around game by recording 29 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the last round. He was a key player of Kings, leading his team to a 91-89 win against the lower-ranked Hotshots (#10, 2-4). Ginebra Kings needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 4 victories and 2 lost games. Brownlee has a great season in Philippines. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 33.3ppg (2nd best). Justin Brownlee has also Filipino passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player. Brownlee attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.
