PBA Round 7 (Regular Season): Rain or Shine keep a leadership position

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Painters as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Painters defeated 10th ranked Masters in Manila 91-80. Strangely Phoenix outrebounded Rain or Shine 66-43 including a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. fired 22 points for the winners. chipped in 20 points. Naturalized American forward Jason Perkins (193-1992, college: VCSU) produced 17 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Painters have a solid series of four victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with TNT Tropang. Phoenix lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom place with five games lost. Phoenix will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Rain or Shine will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked NLEX RW in Makati City.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Warriors (4-2) against ninth ranked Kings (2-3) on Sunday night. Host Warriors were crushed by Kings in Makati City 104-74. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Warriors. Worth to mention a great performance of center Japeth Aguilar (206-1987, college: WKU) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and 5 rebounds. Scottie Thompson contributed with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners. answered with 10 points and 9 rebounds for NLEX RW. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ginebra Kings moved-up to seventh place. NLEX RW at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. Ginebra Kings will play against Titan UGR (#8) in Pasig City in the next round. NLEX RW will play at home against the league's leader Rain or Shine (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.

It was a great evening for Calvin Abueva who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists. At the losing side Christian David responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Titan UGR (2-4) moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Meralco Bolts. Blackwater lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. They share it with Terrafirma Dyip. Titan UGR will meet higher ranked Ginebra Kings (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Blackwater will play against FiberXers and hope to win that game.

In the last game of round 7 SM Beermen defeated FiberXers in Manila 96-90.
The best stats of 7th round was 22 points by Gian Mamuyac of Rain or Shine.




FiberXers - SM Beermen 90-96

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Makati where 5th ranked FiberXers (3-2) were defeated by sixth ranked Beermen (3-2) 96-90 on Sunday. It was a great evening for June Mar Fajardo who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Jaymar Perez helped adding 13 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side center Japeth Aguilar (206-1987, college: WKU) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 19 rebounds and Justine Arana produced a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Beermen have a solid series of three victories in a row. SM Beermen moved-up to fifth place, which they share with defeated FiberXers. SM Beermen will meet at home higher ranked Hotshots (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. FiberXers will play against Blackwater in Caloocan City and hope to secure a win.

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Warriors (4-2) against ninth ranked Kings (2-3) on Sunday night. Host Warriors were crushed by Kings in Makati City 104-74. Bottom-ranked Titan UGR managed to get a second victory, breaking the series of four consecutive losses on Wednesday night. This time they won against ninth-ranked Bossing in Pasig City 97-86. Titan UGR made 28-of-36 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists.
