Oftana number one in Philippines PBA for round 6 (by Hoops Agents)

Forward Calvin-John Oftana (195-F-1996) had an amazing evening in the last round for top-ranked Talk N Text Tropang Giga, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 6.
The 29-year old player was the main contributor (24 points, five rebounds) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out Meralco Bolts (#8, 2-4) 100-98. It allowed TNT Tropang to consolidate first place in the Filipino PBA. TNT Tropang have a solid 5-1 record. In the team's last game Oftana had a remarkable 63.6% from 2-point range. He has many years of experience at TNT Tropang, through which he has constantly improved. Calvin-John Oftana averages this season 13.8ppg and 7.0rpg.

The second best player in last round's games was young Filipino Chris Newsome (187-G-1990) of Meralco Bolts. Newsome had a very good evening with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Bad luck as Bolts was edged by the higher-ranked TNT Tropang (#1, 5-1) 100-98. This loss caused Meralco Bolts to drop to 8th position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 2-4 record. Newsome is one of the most experienced players at Meralco Bolts and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was forward JB Bahio (196-F) of NLEX Road Warriors (#4). Bahio scored 23 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. He was a key player of Warriors, leading his team to a 99-88 win against the lower-ranked Blackwater (#9, 1-3). NLEX RW needs these victories very badly if they think about getting closer to top teams. Their record at this point is 4 victories and 2 lost games. Bahio has a great season in Philippines. After only 6 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 8.7rpg (9th best).
