PBA Round 4 (Regular Season): SM Beermen is defeated by TNT Tropang

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most important game in the last round took place in Makati between third ranked Beermen (3-2) and twelfth ranked TNT Tropang (1-3) on Sunday night. Beermen was defeated by TNT Tropang in a tough game on the road 84-89. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Calvin-John Oftana (195-1996) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points, 21 rebounds and 6 assists and Roger Ray Pogoy (189-1992) who added 14 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side center June Mar Fajardo (210-1989) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. TNT Tropang left bottom position moving up to ninth place, which they share with North Port and Blackwater. SM Beermen at the other side dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. TNT Tropang is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Terrafirma Dyip (#12) in Makati City in the next round. SM Beermen will play at home against Phoenix (#7) and is hoping to win this game.
PBA top team - Hotshots (5-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eleventh ranked Terrafirma Dyip (1-4) in Makati City 127-94. The winners were led by American forward Zavier Lucero (198, college: Cal Maritime) who scored that evening 17 points and 9 rebounds and Paul Lee supported him with 13 points. Even a double-double of 19 points, 12 rebounds and 7 assists by forward Louie Sangalang (193) did not help to save the game for Terrafirma Dyip. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Hotshots have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 5-0 record. Terrafirma Dyip lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom place with four games lost. Hotshots will play against NLEX RW (#3) in Makati City in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Terrafirma Dyip will play at home against TNT Tropang (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 4: Rain or Shine lost to FiberXers on the opponent's court 97-107. North Port was outscored by Ginebra Kings in a home game 106-131. Blackwater recorded a loss to NLEX RW on the road 80-72. Phoenix defeated TNT Tropang on its own court 95-81.



FiberXers - Rain or Shine 107-97

Rather expected game in Makati where 5th ranked Painters (2-2) were defeated by third ranked FiberXers (4-2) 107-97. FiberXers dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Painters's 48. FiberXers outrebounded Rain or Shine 59-37 including a 41-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. FiberXers players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The winners were led by forward Justine Arana (201-1999) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points, 17 rebounds and 6 assists and Justine Baltazar (208-1997) supported him with 13 points and 22 rebounds. Even 26 points and 6 rebounds by center Leonard Santillan (195-1996) did not help to save the game for Rain or Shine. Guard Gian Mamuyac (180-1999) added 25 points for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. FiberXers have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Rain or Shine at the other side dropped to the sixth position with two games lost. FiberXers will play against Ginebra Kings (#5) in Manila in the next round. Rain or Shine will play on the road against Blackwater in Caloocan City and hopes to get back on the winning track.

North Port - Ginebra Kings 106-131

Rather predictable result in Pasig City where seventh ranked Kings (2-1) smashed 9th ranked North Port (1-3) 131-106. Ginebra Kings made 18-of-22 charity shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Ginebra Kings outrebounded North Port 48-33 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ginebra Kings shot the lights out from three nailing 17 long-distance shots on high 53.1 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 37 assists. The winners were led by guard Jayson David (188-1996) who scored that evening 25 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) and guard Johnny Abarrientos (173-1970) supported him with 27 points and 8 assists. Even 19 points and 7 rebounds by forward William Navarro (199-1997) did not help to save the game for North Port. Point guard Jiovani Jalalon (175-1992) added 11 points and 9 assists for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ginebra Kings moved-up to fifth place. North Port lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with three games lost. They share it with TNT Tropang and Blackwater. North Port will play on the road against Meralco Bolts (#8) in Manila and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The winners were led by guard Robert Bolick (185-1995) who scored that evening 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and Jb Bahio supported him with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Four Warriors players scored in double figures. Even 13 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) by naturalized Australian forward Bradwyn Guinto (198-1991) did not help to save the game for Blackwater. Guard BJ Andrade (185-1996) added 15 points for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Phoenix shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. The winners were led by naturalized American forward Jason Perkins (193-1992, college: VCSU) who scored that evening 27 points and 6 rebounds and guard Tyler Tio (183-1998) supported him with 16 points and 4 assists. Even 20 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists by forward Calvin-John Oftana (195-1996) did not help to save the game for TNT Tropang.
